As slimtim says, you can buy it ready made. I've always mixed my own because different finishes can be produced by varying its thickness. I normally use about 60% resin to 40% gel. Add the pigment to taste. If it's to be a finishing coat, add a very small amount of 'Solution MW' which is just paraffin wax in styrene. I bought some a few weeks ago and it was a couple of quid for a litre.

The pic of the engine box lid is 50/50 and rolled on using a polytex type foam roller.

Gel coat is designed not to flow so it's plainly not much use as a flow coat on its own but laminating resin is just too thin.

Andy, I have some measuring bottles and some wax, possibly some hardener so do pop over perhaps one evening next week and we can dig the stuff out, they are just collecting dust in the workshop.


Ribnet is best viewed on a computer of some sort
