The MIAB report regarding the construction of 'Big Yellow' would be comical if not so worrying. Why should the boat you're considering be put together any differently? I wouldn't touch one.

Buy something thats decent, even if the one your looking at is fine you may struggle to sell it on.

Why indeed? If you wanted a small (6-7m) Ferryman for personal use, and you NEVER wanted to sell it again, I'd say why not? A friend has a 6.5 and it's a fantastic, sturdy rib with excellent sea-keeping qualities. The hulls are splashed Rapiers and bear a striking similarity to some of the smaller Parkers . The Fisheries College in Greencastle have a very nice example that they use as a safety/training boat - they don't seem to be sweating it too much.

The problems seem to have arisen when Ferryman "stretched" the design out to 9m without additional structural support in the hull - a disaster that rightly sank the company, as well as Big Yellow.

I have heard that existing Ferryman ribs cannot be coded without belowdeck inspection (gutting).

MAIB report

*cough* Redbay *cough*

'Sticking' the pods and console down with a squirt of mastic and a handful of sef-tappers didn't add to Big Yellow's structural integrity any, this was nothing to do with the hull construction. The whole thing was a 'lash-up'.

On the plus side they might be taken a bit more care over the lay up now.

Fate is strangely whimsical tonight Chewy

They're buster than a bust thing. That's the Greencastle Rib on the front page though - nice wee yoke.

Scrub that. I've just read Willko's post. The Ferryman will be getting paid no more.

I think I see the old builder currently selling an avon adventurer rib over on that other boat selling website which sounds like the lunar landing module.

thanks for all the comments shame about the company but does apear in report that a few aspects were lacking in construction etc.
