Well they claim she is still a liner but she is more of a cruise ship - she wasn't really built to carry passengers across the Atlantic at the highest speed possible.

Aah, that Nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Fond memories for us all. I used to work with an ex-crew member who had the dubious honour of being beached by Capt. Warwick. He had spent the night (and some of the next day) sampling the mysterious delights

of an exotic dancer in Florida and failed to make the sailing.

Anyway, other than stuffing her and mounting her in Hyde park, what would you guys rather have done with her - the QEII? Display in Southhampton/Deep6/Imperial War Museum?

My other half was on the QE2 not long ago when it was here, and said it looked very tired and smelled funny, so not really matching the regal image any more

I do agree- if that is the case....

But knowing how mis- reported a certian incident on the Clyde was by the press, I do wonder just how much truth there is in that story? (I suspect some journalist heard some random person on the quayside say "they'll probably cut the funnel off...." - then add a bit of reporting exageration!)

Time will inevitably tell.....

the original press release from the company involved said this

"Istithmar said its refurbishment programme will aim to recreate QE2’s original interior décor and fittings. QE2 at The Palm Jumeirah will also include a museum celebrating the rich history of the ship."

When on board this summer there were a few teams measuring up certain areas and drawing certain plans.

From a well informed source I have been told the funnel will be taken off, and will act as a walk through entrance to the ship! It will most probably be replaced with a replica, glass funnel that will host a number of penthouse suites.

Apart from that, we'll just have to wait and see I guess.

I don't know Her Majesty is getting on a bit herself... if she is like most 80-odd year olds she will also smell funny and look tired!

I'd have plugged her up and blasted her into orbit for use as the new space station .. for a better standard of space living .. plus theres no sandbanks up there for the cap'n to hit

I have had breakfast, lunch & tea on the QE 2.
I supplied my Rib for security work when there was a terrorist threat
to the two Queens, not bad £ 300 a day for me & the Rib including all meals,
What we where going to do if we had a humane torpedo coming towards the
Ship I don't know, piss of back to Hythe as quick as possible.

Clearly you havnt been on any P&O ships either (also part of Carnival) I have and they are nothing like Butlins.

As I recall buddy that's when we first met, you were providing ruff sorry very ruff trade for the Gentlemen on the ship. You loked quite distinctive in your pink Dock Martins. Unfortunately being with all those well educated gentlemen didn't do much for your spelling...........did a lot for you puncturation though.

Seems very appropriate entry for a thread about a queen in it's declining years!
