Falklands

Does anyone have any knowledge / advice about the Falklands and Port Stanley area. It seems I'm going ribbing out there in February. When I asked whilst out on a C/G job the other night, my fellow team members advice, having spent some time out there wth the RAF, was don't go - its a long way from anywhere and the beers awful!

Wavelength,
An engineer I used to work for said it was windy, darn windy and not to let instrument cabinet door blow into you.
Well he was working on radar & other aviation kit on mountain tops.
There was also a pilotage guide written by Euwen Southerby Taylor ( the marines officer ) prior to the war, charted every inlet, beach and landing point. Thats a small project for a years posting!

Lucky thing you are going at the height of their summer then. Although the FI are on the same lattitude as Stonehenge expect it to be windy and cold. A service diving trip to the FI 10 years ago had snow every day even though it was summer time.

What on earth are you doing there ? the flight is about 23 hours.

spendt 6 months in Port Stanley, its a nice place! my advice, pick some place else to go ribbing.......quick, before its to late.

Hi Wavelength,

The last time I was there we left behind a lot rubbish hidden in the ground be careful were you walk

IMHO it is very cold wet & miserable piece of island that is only good for sheep & penguins & were I would send all politicians.

Mind you if you do get the weather right you will enjoy it I'm sure.

Teaching some courses. Good job its a long flight - seems to be the only enjoyable bit!

I just hope the thing lands instead of just chucking us out of the back with a parachute (or without if we're travelling economy!) when it gets there.Whats all this stuff you left behind Ageing Youth-I thought it was only the baddies that did that - thats how it looks on the films anyway

If I take the current Mrs Wavelength with me to act as mine detector how many steps behind her do I have to walk to be safe from any stray shrapnel?

That is why there are 3 legged sheep hopping around.

Do not belive all that you have seen/read on the telly. Journalists are well known for their creativity.

If you fly down, is there any chance of a stop over in Accension Islands? Much nicer there.

Port Stanley makes for some excellent navigation & the views are spectacular.

I would like to ask a personal favour, if you get time please place a flower on the memorial in Stanley for me. I would very much appreciate it. I have never been back, to do it myself.
