Ever dream you were naked in public?

Nasty! My nightmare is Tom McLaughlin catching me at Redbay HQ without my All Weather clothing. So as I departed at silly o'clock this morning to collect Her Ribship from servicing, I turned back and grabbed my kitbag - you just never know...

...and whaddaya know, the wind fell, the seas receded and Charles said "have you got wet gear?"

Seems they were doing weight distribution tests on the Redbay 850 Prototype because there are orders for a twin outboard and a Volvo D6 installation and the tube line will be adjusted accordingly. Apparently a 100kg smart weight was required, that and there were a few steel weights to be fetched

Anyways, she is a child of the recent 1050 mould, with the Yanmar 315HP inboard and new Yanmar TRP leg. I got a drive up past Tor Head and I was hugely impressed, she dismisses chop and shrugs off small swell with almost no slapping or crashing. She makes 33 knots at 3100rpm, upper end is around 45kts.

HI R you certainly had the best of the weather not just as good this side. Great pics nice boat/s pity yours wasnt there! In pic one just to the left of A C you can just make out my house!!

She was in the carpark . Yeah, I did glance at the skies. Sunny over Scotland, Gloomy and Wet over Northern England and kinda Uncertain over Ireland. Well deserved all round I thort...

Well, they were Specified for Civil Servants, so I should expect that they'd be comfortable

TBH, it wasn't lumpy enough to work them properly, but basically you're on a magic carpet ride. Past experience with Scotseats Prototypes was very good - these are the finished production models

As regards commandability, 56lb steel weights set the bar fairly low

They only command they seem familiar with is "Stay!"

Fully kitted, I'm worth four of 'em and I know all the basic sheepdog commands. It's a pity that Tom's whistling is a bit rusty. There was an embarrassing moment when I had the entire crew penned in the bow...

Best I got to helm yesterday was my desk at work and push pens all day....

Surprised the Irish Coast Guard are getting new ribs from Redbay.
Didn't think there was any money left in the country !
Nice spec 8.0 tho, bet they will have lots of fun patrolling the Irish coast in her

That reminds me, I forgot one picture. She's a big girl, the engine housing lid is lower than the tubes and there must be 18" of deck walk space between the housing and the sides! The 315hp was a freebee from Yanmar, as was the ZT350 leg (twin counterrotating props). This boat is basically a test platform (hull, leg, etc.) and is a very basic spec. (for Redbay). The tubes are a secondhand revamped set that had been lying in the store for years.

Immediate plans are for an outboard wraparound version and another with a Volvo D-6 installation (so 350HP) - that thing will shift!
No doubt the Expedition version will not be too far off. I heard mutterings about galleys and heads

Apparently, Yanmar will be adopting the new Landcruiser V8 block, so that opens up interesting new possibilities too - vroom-vroom!

Will that be a diesel or petrol, I cant remember whats in the Landcruiser.

And to original topic yes but it never bothered me, however, I'd place a long list of younger opposite sex candidates ahead of me if it was mandatory on board a RIB, thats when a helm at the stern comes into it's own.

Not the existing petrol V8, I assume this one (which is new to Toyota) is a diesel. I reely dunno, tbh

Sorry DHD, missed you there. I'm all mixed up about Suspension seating.

If you just mean ScotSeats over another brand, sure if the price was right - they're built solidly and the ride is great.

Would I spec Suspension seats in general, I dunno. It's a minefield. Ignore the cost (if you can) a moment and consider the pros and cons

On work boat, with a small but busy crew - they must be a bonus. For thrill rides, they may eventually be compulsory. For farting about wave hopping it starts to get fuzzy - to me, the uninitiated, they take away a little bit of the "feel" of the boat, but I think experience would help that. Some folks think they would encourage the skipper to push a boat too hard. Certainly, if the passengers didn't have the same seating, they would suffer. For a lad like me with spine damage, they would ease the pain on an extended days cruising. I am disciplined enough to helm from one and not push the limits of boat or crew. So I'd consider one/two on an open boat, in a wheelhouse I'd probably prefer a full "KAB" style seat for the helm. Again, ScotSeats do a beauty, although the Dial-Your-Weight feature ain't gonna be a hit with the Ladyees....
