I'll check that next time its uncovered, only a small alteration if it's tight

Probably worth adding an inch onto the section if you're going to do any alterations.

No, sorry-an extra inch into the tank holder. Barrus tanks seem to vary by about 10mm.

Sorry Nos for late reply, checked yesterday and its loose by about an inch both ways! I'm going to grind two of the supports out and re position them for a snug fit. Just hoping for some decent weather this weekend, not looking hopeful.

If it's loose by an inch, I'd leave it where it is or you might find a replacement Barrus tank won't fit or it'll pop out on a hot day. You'll still need to strap the tank down even if it's a tight fit.

I've been thinking about doing away with the Barrus recesses completely and instead glassing in two blocks of 18mm marine ply with a 10mm bolt though from the underside
(same as the blocks in the floor for the transom brackets)
Then I can wind on stainless eye nuts so I can strap down any size tank for extended cruising maybe
What do you think?

Might work, but you might just get fed up of impaling yourself on them.

I run (most commonly) 2 Barrus tanks and 2 bladders in mine. It gives a big range, and I have the normal 2 barrus tank holders. The bladders fit between the Barrus tanks and the tubes quite happily.

Well after deciding to completely remove the Barrus tank recesses I also noticed that one of the stainless transom supports had been ripped out and repaired badly sometime in the past. New deck reinforcement timbers shaped out of a single piece of hardwood and bonded to the deck with Gravicol putty and stainless screws.
First layer of glass to bare timber areas of deck, the whole deck will have another two/ three layers of 450g CSM tomorrow.
Hypalon deck patches also prepared and overlaid with new hypalon ready for bonding to deck
