Engine choice

My Northcraft 6.3 has a 22" transom. New engines all seem to be for 20" or 25". Any suggestions as to what is best please

I had a similar dilemma with. 23" transom. In the end I went for a20" shaft, well happy cav plate is about 1.5" above the keel line but no cavitation. My rib is over 7m though

shaft length

If you measure the outboards themselves you will find that not many match up to 20" or 25". There are variances between manufacturers. Some are closer than others but I have seen a 20" than measured at 22" and others that were under 20" .

I've got a "20" " Yamaha in my shop that measures out at 21" and a 25" Suzuki that measures at 24".

And if you check the length of shaft from the same manufacturer there are also variations of long shaft, eg F100 Yamaha long shaft = 508 mm. F115 long shaft =516mm

Thanks for that Chris. I’m thinking about a Honda 150HP. I don’t suppose you know how it measures. I presume the measure is from underside of the bracket to the cav. plate. Cheers, Willie

Don't know if any use to you but last Tango traded in a cracking honda 130 or 135, can't mind, to bill hymen last month. I think it was a 2003 engine but was sweet as a nut if he still has it.

If it is new you are going then take a look at the mercury 150

Thanks for that. I want to step forward in time from my 2002 Evinrude. Will have a look at the mercury. Thanks, Willie
