You can play with our "live" DSC radio's on the stand.
They are set up so you can send messages back and forth between them.
This inc's all levels of DSC messages, distress, safety, urgency and individaul.

You can also send "live" voice between them as well.

Please feel free to come and spend as much time as you wish on the stand trying out DSC.
I and the team will be on hand to walk you through or refresh your memory and help in anyway we can.

Just another idea to help.

Regards
Bruce this is an excellent offer , did the school you did your course at not have live vhf's if it did then still think a refresher will help you. Its ok being out there as you say but how many messages are you going to send to another rib , you will also be restricted as to what you can send, if the answer is no to my question then find a school near you that does use live radio, failing that send your son or wife on a course as a back up .

VHF chat/practice...

FWIW - an old but true saying. "As you train, so shall you respond.." So, don't use mobie for conversation and keep VHF for when there is a HVAC/Merde collision - get familiar with the VHF for appropriate and routine comms so you can use it when you have to.

Other ways of getting v. familiar is to become involved in a cruise/rescue rib work/mark laying etc. where you can use the vhf lots usually on private channels!

Alternatively - listen to the SAR helos working 16/67/0 (if you can) - these guys are hot! Be aware they will be using modified procedures - much more clipped and precise. Also available are some downloads on audio.sarwatch.co.uk which are from 5680Mhz but you'll get the gist...

And definitely stick MIRPDANIO somewhere near the radio/laminated card!

Cheers & have a happy & safe Xmas

Ribrunt.

Now there's a great offer Jon Brooks! And a very positive approach.

I get the feeling your team would be very welcoming and peeps wouldn't be made to feel foolish about asking you for information.

Thankfully our instructor was like that.

Biggles we tend to settle for Chn 77 for our little trips if that's any help.

Thanks Mrs,

We try!
I have always tried to make students I teach feel comfy.
They will not learn anything by being humiliated.

As I was once told and always teach by:-

What I hear I forget
What I see I remember but
What I do I understand

Hope you all had a good Xmas and Santa brought you all you wanted

Regards
