I think the last two posts may have missed my main point.

There is no glue involved to make the seal- the boots can be removed at any time. The rings are there to provide structure for the rubber bands to seal against.

You're right. I just had the impression that you were thinking I was talking about gluing boots onto suits. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
