I got feedback from Typhoon today, they recon that fitting boots wouldn't be possible with my Drysuit as the material is too thin.

Any old welly or some nice thermally lined ones?

I'm not having new socks fitted as they were a pain in the ass to get back off. So I will certainly be interested in letting you have a look at my drysuit. The exsisting socks have been stitched in with taped seams, so I suppose a rubber seal could first be fitted to the leg then seam tape used and then the rubber bonded to the boot.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Having looked at the suit, you should be able to fit boots, it is a nylon trilaminate, probably a Taslan or similar outer material. Stating the obvious, your problem could be the aperture of the lower leg v the circumference of the boot.

1) Locate a pair of comfortable Welllingtons.
2) Go to a place that has plumbing stuff and find a piece of thin plastic pipe that fits _inside_ the very top of the boot. Make a couple of rings out of the pipe.
3) Go to a tire shop and find an old inner tube that will stretch over the top of the boots with the rings in the top. Make a set of wide rubber bands out of the old inner tube.
4) Cut the cuffs off your drysuit to about shin height. (It works best to match the cross section of the top of the Wellingtons to the open cross section of the dry suit legs. This eliminates any folded material.)

Donning:
1) Put on your drysuit.
2) Put the rubber bands around the ankle of the Wellingtons.
3) Put on the boots and pull the bands so that they constrict the legs of the drysuit against the top of the boots.

You can actually wade in the water and water does not enter if you have set things up correctly.

Hope this helps someone.
What about the bits of 4" soil pipe? Do you leave these inside the wellies?

Yes, and it should be a snug fit at the very top of the boot. As I think back on it I think I have heard of things like plastic flower pots used as well.

I used an orange flashing beacon cover as a former, as its hard and tapered, which was then removed ....made an excellent job. Knowing what glue to use is very important too, depending on the materials you are bonding together

Dont be afraid to stretch the joints tight .. this is what you need for a good bond

I think the last two posts may have missed my main point.

There is no glue involved to make the seal- the boots can be removed at any time. The rings are there to provide structure for the rubber bands to seal against.

You're right. I just had the impression that you were thinking I was talking about gluing boots onto suits. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
