Not at all, I just wanted to be like Bigmuz7, he's now one of my Action hero characters, just like Ian the canoeist. Idealy my location would be scotland, yorkshire and Iceland, all at the same time, but I can only stalk one hero at a time you know.

You're relatively new here aren't you. If you weren't, you'd know that changing my location after 4 years membership and running boatmad, wouldn't fool many people as to my whereabouts. So Einstein, try again.

Well I enjoy my RIB, for me its perfect and does what I want.

If I could afford a large Hardboat I would probably consider buying one as well as I would love to do some distance crusing when the kids are a little older and would prefer something with a cabin for that.

Jonny you are clearly very knowledgable about all things boating and I know you are extremely proud of your boat (not many people would fork out over a grand for reupholstery just cause there is a tiny nick on one of the seats)

I joined this website cause I wanted to know more about RIBs and how to get the most out of one.

I hope you can understand that most of these people are here because they feel the same way. You seem to have a real problem with this and I cant really understand why, however reading your arguments does not make me feel any different I just find it annoying that the place where I choose to spend my time talking about RIBS is invaded by a loud mouth prat whose sole purpose is to deliberately wind up the members of this site.

Its like walking into your favourite local boozer to find some loudmouthed tit spouting off at the end of the bar.

Do us all a favour and go back to Boat Mad mate

Chill mate, you are right in what you say, your boat is perfect for you.
You need to understand there is a element of tongue in cheek with this thread,
It's Horses for courses, if you have money to spend and want a nice flash boat why not!
But for others you need to start on the boating ladder somewhere, RIB's are a good starting point,Then you can move on if you want.

Thanks for the advice. However rest assured I am perfeclty "chilled" I was simply putting my point of view across seeing as everyone else seems intent on doing the same regardless of how pointless an arguent this is.

You guys like Hard boats I like RIBS end of story. Yes RIBs are not as good for offshore powerboat racing, Yes RIBs are probably more suited to going out and playing in the rough stuff (certainly for their size). But In all cases the people on here are just as proud of their boat as Johnny is of his so of course if someone comes on here and starts insulting all and sundry what do you expect?

did not have time to post this last night but this thread reminded me...some years back me and my rubber dubber set out to go over to Studland where you can play around with your water toys (sounds rude) as it's often quite calm there, but this day it was a blowing a lot, few boats about not a good sign got about 1/4 mile past the ferry entrance going into the bay, not a pleasure boat in sight, and could not go more than 4/5 mph the waves were longer than the boat and pitched it really high, I had been enticed to go that far by the harbour master boat it seemed to be having no problems at that point the harbour master boat shot over he had a hailer even though he was only around 30ft from me and said...go back...I said in a joking way don't worry it's a rib...he said that's what worry s me its people like you in boats like that, he said something to the words like when you have a proper boat like this one I will let you through...I thought nuff said and scuttled back in...me and me mate had already moist pants from the conditions ( ribbers ehh ) his boat I think was a Halmatic same as the pilot boats

and no tooobs in sight

Harbour Masters have no authority to stop you leaving the Harbour, its your choice not his!

So you went out in conditions that did not suite your boat, I don't see how this instance is a slur on RIBs in general?

I have a friend with a Humber 5.0 meter that has a rather shallow V, the difference in a heavy sea between that boat and my Osprey which is only 50 CM longer is like night and day.

The Harbour Master doesn't know the difference between your Osprey and your mates Humber.
He can't stop you going out, what happens if someone in an old Atlantic 21 wants to go out, will he stop them, the boat and crew could be more than capable but he wouldn't know.

As you say he could not really stop you, but they were words of concern and rightly so these were the conditions that people are warned about (an area of sea can turn very dangerous in a very short time these are the sort of warnings you see posted on this kind of boating site words of wisdom)... that part of the bay can be subject to wind over tide and even on and average day can produce a good size swell, in fairness I had only stuck the nose into the bay that far out of curiosity and had intended running back in asap...Rib size 5.85m engine 200hp

"had a right f**king nightmare today at lee-on-solent, took our dateline bounty 4.3 out for its maiden voyage and about 5 mins across the solent to the isle of wight the engine caught fire, not very pleased to say the least, seems the electrics shorted somewhere, as i reached into a smoke and fire filled engine compartment i grabbed the fire extinguisher and found that was faulty and wouldnt go off as one would expect it to, so there we were floating about half a mile out to sea with a boat on fire! in a bit of a pickle would be an understatement!

anyway thanks very much to the chap in his rib that rescued us by lending us his fire extinguisher and towing us back to the shore, you shot off so quick we didnt get a chance to thank you properly, and let us pay you for your fire extinguisher"

P.S. Just returned form watching the powerboat racing at Salcombe. Brilliant.

On leaving, were following a race boat (cockpit etc.) who was arsing about on the wake of big motor cruiser. They stuffed the bow and almost sunk the bloody thing!!!

were the racing folk at Salcombe appealing for local rib owners to help as safety cover , like they did in plymouth last year ?? I seem to remember lots of the teams using ribs to get about setting up the course etc . Wonder why they did that , surely red speed boats would have been far better with Viagra dispensers fitted to every seat

Your built in fenders. it's your ONLY attribute. We dont want any damage to our beautiful craft. Also, there's always loads that say 'yes' coz it's kinda like giving a prefect badge to a little nerd.
