Hmm.

Someone is wondering:- What would the effects of running on Kerosene/cheap 2 stroke oil mix be?
The idea of mixing the cheapo 2 stroke oil in would be to counter the reduced lubrication that kero would provide for the diesel pump.

Apparently it works very well indeed - in many countries winter diesel is actually mainly Kero anyway. What you need to restore the lube properties is 5% Rapeseed oil - cheaper than 2 stroke - also great as chain lube for your chainsaw - a lot cheaper than the proper stuff and better for the environment as well.

Problem you have is that it is now dyed yellow and has chemical traces in it so you may as well stick with red - if they catch you it will be illegal either way - I suppose - depends on what sort of laws they bring in.

Will Kerosene burn your valve seals due to a lower lighting point or something? A mechanic told me this, advised me not to use Kerosene in my diesel engine. He know's more about engines than me so I took his advise

I wonder quite what the legal standpoint is? It's not legal for use as road fuel-but guess what... it's not going on the road...

Hmm interesting idea, what we need is someone who does lots of miles with a big diesel at this time of year to give it a try, do you know of anyone?

Many military forces now have a single fuel policy - they use kero in everything from hummers to tanks and helicopters. The only time they found problems was in really hot countries like the gulf so now they use additives to provide extra lubrication.

JP8 by the way is 99.8% kero

"One of the more significant and comprehensive tests of JP8 was a field demonstration conducted at Fort Bliss, Texas, from October 1988 through July 1991. This field demonstration involved about 2,800 diesel-powered vehicles and pieces of equipment that consumed over 4.7 million gallons of JP8. The demonstration proved successful: no catastrophic failures were attributed to JP8. In fact, no major differences in procurement costs, fuel consumption, oil change intervals, or component replacements were identified when compared to historical data for the same fleet of vehicles and equipment using diesel fuel"

Wouldn't fancy running it neat - too thick - you need preheating and all sorts - mixed up to about 40% would prob be ok - you can also chuck some white spirit or petrol in to thin it out - diesels will run on any old crap!!!
