Deck Bung

I have a bung to drain the deck as most of us do. In the bilge well there is another bung to the deck

On the trailer I have always left both open to drain and allow air flow under deck

My question is on a mooring should the inner bung be open or closed. Or closed and randomly opened as it will fill

The specific is rain water will sit there when the boat is not used as it will hold quite a lot until it gets high enough for the bilge pump to kick in

If on a mooring I would open/close randomly. I just fitted a garboard drain because my boat is on a trailer therefore am happy to leave the inner hull drain open.

I found a couple of pints in the inner hull, not helped by having a full bilge and without the garboard drain there would always be some water in the sump, somehow finding it's way past the inner hull plug. I'll change the o ring and see how it goes, maybe it's coming in from elsewhere.

I’d leave it in. If you leave it out & the outer bung fails, the hull will fill. Also during the monsoon season (April to March[emoji6]) and the boat fills with rainwater, it’ll flow back into the hull from the sump.

You’re not funny April to March [emoji12] be cracking the flags soon enough.

I am leaning to leave it in tbh and perhaps take it out while using the boat. Right now the water that comes out is reasonably clean and doesn’t stink. I take that as good representation of what it’s like where I can’t see!

don't be posting any pics of your mooring Niel, it may send a few of us over the edge

and I'd go with PD's suggestion, leave the bung in and see how much water, if any, is in there next time you go for a blast

and no, I'm not in the least green with envy

All tucked up full of fuel and ready to go [emoji106]. I’ll post one in the sun soon enough once the monsoon stops [emoji23]
