Norman no mates

Well if like me you dont have any mates! Then you can see that it would be near impossible to organise much more than a table at the harvester. Saying that I'm looking forward to meeting some like minded people on the rally! I hear they are gonna be really cool guys just like us lot on rib.net! reeeer

Also there are serious health and safety issues which would need to be debated for couple of years and enforced by rib.nerds ever growing army of self proclaimed traffic wardens.

Still sounds like Rogue Waves with his 18 years in the entertainment industry should be able to come up with some constructive ideas for laying on a better event.

As for me I'm just happy to enjoy the thing and let someone else put in half a years slog plus for very little reward.

Rupert, something tells me that slogging for very little reward isn't one of your personality traits!

One thing that amazes me is the depth that you will stoop to. You've dragged up the Cowes Fireworks '04 incident to make a point from the misery of those involved...

If, as you claim, the RIB passengers should have assisted in averting the accident, then didn't you, as a fellow club member, have a role in averting fatal the human cannonball incident? It would then follow that you shouldn't have been called as a witness in the manslaughter trial, but as a defendant.

As you correctly state, "any adventurous activity has its inherent risks" and I've learnt in other activities (mainly mountaineering and gliding) these risks can be mimimised whilst still enjoying the activity to its limit. It's also taught me to be careful about the company I keep. I'm busy on Thursday, have a great Gumball.

Dangrerous acitivity

I was there with Rupert when the human cannonball incident happened and there was nothing that him or myself could have done. I think that to compare the two incidents is at best insensitive. With regards to having a safe event on the water, I find it highly unlikely that any organisation would allow such an event to happen, if they felt that the event was deemed to be unsafe.

Also this rally is not being organised by Spectre Racing at all, and I cannot see what the crossover is.

With all dangerous acitivties, there is a certain amount of risk that is involved and I am sure that the IT consultant has done his Prince 2 (if he is worth his salt) and understands that methodlogy behind taking such a project on.

There is a lot of interest in this rally, I would like to see some members of this forum to take a step back, and think that by staging an event like this, it brings awareness to the general public and not to a cliquey few.

By somewhat glamourising the whole concept, there is a sense of style that is hoping to be delivered...people that would be interested in the sport will of course keep their safety hat on, but don't want to be geeks and get bogged down by someone telling them the finer points of the abilities of an icom radio.

Some people are having a real dig at other people and as I said last night, the level of pessism is a worry, and if Richard is a mountaineer and glider, I am surprised that his ethos is directed against doing 'outdoor events'

I am currently lost for words..! Unbelievable, maybe... but true.... I cannot get my breath at the crass, blinkered ignorance displayed in the last few posts from LOPC and Spectre... I genuinely can’t think of anything rational or reasonable to put into words.. I just have an overwhelming desire to confront them and pour rage down upon them… however, having had a couple of minutes to calm down, I will respond, at length , later…..

….and breathe….

One small thing though?........ I hope LOPC isn't going to be Ed, because, despite the rocky start to "our relationship" (No sniggering at the back there).. He came good and I wish him well with his venture..

This is my, much “calmed down” and sanitized version of what I was going to post earlier If I had posted my original I think that even the relaxed and laid-back JK might have re carded me.. and I don’t want to upset the “Lanky One” so……….

I have to be honest here and admit that I am prejudiced. I know it’s not very PC to admit that, but in reality, which right thinking person can look into there psyche and say they are not prejudiced against some group or other? My personal prejudice is against “privileged” people, for want of a better expression, who think that they are superior to the rest of us.
I admit that overall, a lot of people could, quite rightly, consider me to be privileged. I was born to a father that worked his guts out to improve the lot of his children and my sisters and I have benefited enormously from his efforts. He was born into a large family in a back-to-back in the Potteries. I suspect that Rupert and his ilk will have no idea what that means. He started with nothing and worked his way up, via being a shop floor convenor (Union man for the uninitiated) to running his own engineering company. Compare to that my life has been bed of roses. We most certainly never went without. I enjoyed, well “endured” a private education up to “O” level standard and after a period in my life which I am trying to black out, returned to the education system a little late to complete my education in the public sector.
I have to say that I found the people I socialised with in those later years to be a lot more honest, tolerant and well balanced than my earlier years.
I feel that it is important to tell you exactly where I stand, before I heap abuse upon Spectre and LOPC. My politics have been described as a little to the right of Ghengis Kahn, yet I am a heart a true Communist……. Go figure! I can’t… Please understand that when I talk about communism I’m talking about the mythical true ideal of everyone being equal and being equally rewarded for equal effort. I’m not talking about the bastardised socialism that people often refer to as communism.
Rupert and LOPC, in you posts, you have done nothing more than reinforce your stereotypical status. Your complete inability to comprehend that a lot of people are simply not interested in “cocktail parties” or what you and you friends got up to at Oxford. You treat the law as though it doesn’t apply to you for some reason such as perceived status. You think it’s a bit of “fun” to pick on a person described as ”moderately retarded”. If that particular comment is true and not more childish bluster then I think you’re one sick individual who needs to be taught a lesson in humanity. You flaunt money when you have yet to recompense a man who you swindled. You talk of “exclusive parties” in “exclusive clubs” and belittle people who find going for a meal at a family restaurant pleasurable.

I'll sum all this up, to save boring every one…

"Failed cocktail party" .... COCKTAIL PARTY ?? What planet do you live on sunbeam?

I could go on an on….. as those of you who know me will assure you I can… but I know it’s pointless. There is no more likelihood of you changing your outlook than there is of me……..

Cheers, Jono AKA Mr Angry....

cocktail party

nothing wrong with a good cocktail party jono - met my wife at one on the back of a frigate in Shanghai..some good points made all the same.

Think it's more about attitude than social background though, and actually I think had the advertising of the event been carried out with a bit more transparency, humility and honesty, more forum members would have been inclined to give the rally a go regardless of the organisers' social status.

...and you STILL like cocktail parties? Only kidding....

I appreciate your comments on the difference between "social background" and "attitude" and agree up to a point. However the "Class system" in this country appears to be alive and well. This, in my opinion, is not acceptable in a modern world.
I would use as an example your phrase "social status". Who bestowed "status" on people because of their birth or background, other than their own perceived status, that is?

Whilst I agree that there are a number of “privileged” individuals who do show humility and humanity, they are few and far between, in my experience.

With regard to this particular topic, I feel that you have hit the nail, fair and square, on the head. If more respect had been shown to potential “customers”, this event may have gone down a storm. As it is, the sheer arrogance and ignorance of a couple of people have taken it upon themselves to tarnish this venture.

Jono

what social status?

I have not brought social status into this and please dont get the impression that this is only for the preserve of the aristocracy.

I'm actually a working class man myself and a life long member of the labour party and work bloody hard and you will find people from all backgrounds and cultures taking part in the event. Admittedly I might have the odd Field Marshal or High Court Judge tucked away a few generations back but I never met them and they have no relevance to how I live or work today. How prejudiced you are to assume it.

I hate privelege myself so please dont start jumping to conclusions about this event. Dont knock it until you've tried it!

Firstly and at the risk of repeating myself, I am not knocking this event at all.... it is you and your attitude that, quite frankly, stink. I admit that my "conclusion" about you may be flawed and I have already admitted to a prejudice. All of which might cloud my judgement and if you really are as you describe above, then I apologise… however…… I am finding it increasingly difficult to believe you. If we have a frank question and answer session I’m sure we can clear thing up. I’m game if you are?
I’ll start the ball rolling…

Could you confirm that you are indeed, as you claim a Solicitor and if so which firm you work for? If you wish to give the name of the firm by PM, I’ll understand obviously. Unfortunately, when I checked with the roll at the Law Society they couldn’t find you. I’m sure it’s a mistake that you’ll be able to correct.

Can you confirm the “proceedings” that you have initiated against Eupa? He has yet to hear from you.

Would you be so good as to explain why you find the abuse of a “mildly retarded girl” to be a source of amusement?

Have you made any effort to repay the losses made by the member of this forum who lost money as a result of your illegal activities?

Right, I think that’s enough from me… please feel free to ask me questions too.

TimW ... You’d be amazed at the level of my experience…

deauville rally

I am here to talk about ribs and the deauville rally and not about my work or politics or my creed or culture.

Everything else is strictly none of your business and I do not wish it discussed on this thread which is titled Deauville Rally.

The only question which has any relevance to this is Eupa who has since admitted that he does not intend to disrupt things so I do not see any reason to pursue this.

On a more positive note has anyone got any news on how the entries are brewing up. I just had confirmation that another Honda race boat has entered today.

Mr Balme keep up the good work!

..and from that, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, draw your own conclusions as to the honesty, integrity and character of Spectre racing...

I'm sorry.... I couldn't resist a little "legal" humour....

Draw whatever conclusions you like Jono.

I'm on this thread to promote the rally and that only.

Why dont you start another thread yourself to debate other issues.

Ah.... I see we've gone from occupation "Solicitor" to occupation "HSE", which is equally unbelievable, so from that I conclude you are a liar or a fool or, most probably, both. The best way you could ever support the Rally would be to leave well alone and hope that your association with this event is forgotten. Ed sure doesn't need your "support" on here.

News to me fellah- all I said is that I do not think it is correct to attack Mr. Kennet's site. My other burst of enthusiasm was that I dont think you own the sea around Deauville ( or any other part for that matter) - and anybody is entitled to come broadside to your race , because I have yet to see any published (I stand to be corrected)-' warnings to mariners'- that this "race" is taking place??. Personally I would not like to get in the way of a bunch of ****** off***** stuck** hooligans.

I would also like to advise you of the channel passage regulations - all crossings of the traffic flow must be at right angles to the stream and YOU
give way.

Sincerely

Jonathan

Jono, you're coming across as a red faced, spluttering little man full of indignation. If you're not that, and I'm sure you're not, unfortunately your writings on this thread do point in that direction.

It may be possible that you have some preconceived idea that you would not be welcome by the people organising and entering this rally and as a result have been pouring bile on the organisers.

The fact is and it's been made very clear to you, that everybody would be welcome.

As you have obviously never had any intention of taking part in this event I can't understand why you have got yourself so wound up and involved!

Now come on, cheer up and wish them luck for a great event
