cuddy ribs

Popped over to cowes at the weekend and there is a very impressive cuddy/cabin rib up the medina anyone know what it is?

I currently own a 6.6m regal cuddy sportsboat. Its a very capable fun and fast boat and being a cuddy means i can take the girlfriend away for a cosy night out every now and then. I would really like a rib for ease of use, sea handling and to eliminate all the damage i get on my boat from other boat owners when moored up. I dont understand why more rib manufacturers dont cater for the cuddy range, its one of the biggest sellers in the sportsboat range so surely they could corner that market aswell as the open boat market.

If someone could superglue some tubes on my boat id be perfectly happy but i dont think they can so can anyone suggest any cuddy type ribs for me so i can cross over to the rib world and keep my girlfriend happy. Sadly i cannot afford a scorpion though!!

Ocean do a very impressive and reasonably priced Cabin Rib that is nicely put together. Other ones I have seen in the area include Protectors, Redbays and Scorpions.

You have a good point about the cuddy, i think itaddsto the versatility of the Rib. Ialso believe that the 'JollySailor' is for sale and that's a rather well proven Cuddy Rib

Yes Jolly Sailor has hardly been used this year, only done about 120 hours which is nothing really.

Wheelhouse and cuddy RIB's are a rare bread.

We have a Ribtec 1000 with a wheelhouse and cuddy (see pic)

It has all the advantages you mention and many more, the only downside is the cost, Ribtec have indicated a replacement would cost at least £100000 !!

My advice would be to look for a second hand boat, ribcraft, redbay, scorpion and others do similar boats

What did the cabin RIB near Cowes look like? If it is red with a workboat type wheelhouse with forward sloping windows, then it is probably the Barbarian that was produced (as far as I remember) by Island Plastics a few years ago. As far as I know it was a one off and isn't in production any more.

The Aquaflyte cabin RIB looked interesting, but I don't think that they are in business any more. I think there was just one prototype boat built, which was up for sale recently and may still be. I seem to remember that someone who piosts here has the moulds so it may still be possible to have one built.

Brian Elliott's Scorpion cabin RIB is up for sale, as is Jolly Sailor. I think that Mark's Ribtec used to be called Haven Diver and was an almost direct copy of Jolly Sailor (or Spirit of Portsmouth as it was back then!).

The Barbarian that you mention was recently up for sale with Berthon and Mike Conway. I do not know what it sold for in the end but I suspect it would have been in the low 30's as I am told it was pretty basic, a bit rough and the guy wanted rid.

If you look at the Ribcraft website and in particular the 9 metre pictures you will see the exact same boat as the barbarian (some have cuddy's some don't)

I suspect that IPI (Island Plastics International) used a Ribcraft 9 metre hull and built there own wheelhouse. Ribcraft have since built and sold the same boat under there own name.

Just such a boat was sold at the beginning of the season in Scotland, it was in A1 nic, Yanmar 300 with Bravo 3, lots of electronics and a really nice fit out inside I think it went for around £50,000
