I haven't any idea what you're on about (again!). No-one indicated that your advice was false or that s/he knew better! Richard and I were just giving information based on our own policy which does state in writing that we are covered for inshore, coastal and tidal cruising within the limits I have outlined above. Are you saying that the information I give in my posts does not count for anything? I humbly suggest you are taking all of this rather personally!

So the message is that everyone should check their policy wording to see if they are covered. If you don't go more than 12 miles off shore then there's unlikely to be a problem, but if you're venturing further afield then it's definitely worth reading th small print.

It looks to me like everyone agrees, but we can't have that getting in the way of an argument!

John

John, I don't want an argument but I don't like being falsely accused! I do understand though that recent events will have had quite a devastating effect on Alan and in the spirit of good will and friendship I'd like to buy you a drink tomorrow night Alan. Whaddya say?

This statement is not true, they are not "only around to make money". An insurance company that wishes to stay in business will also pay valid claims, based on the coverage afforded and as described in the policy wording.

There are many mixed views of the insurance industry, based on peoples personal experience, unfortunately we usually only get to hear about the bad. The majority of claims in various different lines of business are settled to the satisfaction of the policy holder.

I was interested to see that Insurance Man is also a lifeboat man.....
