For those that couldn't make it.....here are some pictures of an extremely surreal event. Cheese rolling and Bog snorkelling are the only close contenders that I can think of.

Wow! Great pics - and not a ball-polisher in sight! Even an 'arty' one at the end of the second set!

The second shot in your first set of the pictures would make a good 'Spot the Ball' competition! And I wouldn't have changed places with you when you got your third shot in that sequence!!

Thank you.

I did actually get hit by the ball on one occasion. Luckily it was me and not the camera.

Looks like you all had a good time

Was the Helicopter there to rescue someone or was it just part of the event ?

How come the sandbank only shows once a year ?

They seemed to be taking photo’s either that or they were practicing there vulture impressions I do know that they were B***** noisy and spoilt an otherwise tranquil evening. Des

Particularly large range tides for this area...Very high HW and very low LW
I think it happens twice a year (spring and summer)
The spring one doesn't get so much press as....
1... it is not in the Cricket season...and
2....the spring one it probably still looks covered as it will be sheeting down with rain and the wind will be lumping water onto it too.

The 'island' formed by last nights low tide was all of 60-80 cm above CD and only lasted about 40 minutes or so.
The island would have been higher and longer lasting if Cricket was a suitable game to be played on a wet sandbank in the middle of the Solent at 0700 ish instead!!

I see this made a showing on Countryfile today.
Only saw a few clips of boats in the background couldn't read any names

Better late than never.

It was on another BBC programme a couple of weeks ago, the one with Chris packham (?) presenting it. There were quite a few arial shots too so now we know why the helicopter was there.
