Manos, your well out of order. Since when did diesel and water mix together ? and what possible good will washing the under side of a car with that mix do ?

Garages not being able to use Waxoils then hey ? better tell Landrover that then because all the new vehicles supplied to the Forces are coated with the stuff! and if you need some try Halfords they sell it by the can and always have done.

Interestingly if you tried this oil/water mix in Germany you would be arrested! and be taken to the courts by the local "Stat" (town council) as they have long recognised that their deep underground water wells are being poluted from the surface. Indeed your not even allowed to let soap from washing a car run off into the land.

CJL is quite right buy a rope.

Pete you suppose to mix detergent, warm water and Automotive (biodegradable if availiable) diesel. It works!! and garages use it

Glad you said that Pete 7, I think it's bxxxxxxs that you can't use waxyoil anymore, you can buy it everywhere and know loads of places that use it.

As H20 events says, you can still buy DIY wax oil, but you cannot get it done with the original wax oil, ie spent oil, at garages. The waste oil is classified as carcenogenic and spraying it has massive H+s implications. As a result it is now banned. I dont know what new derivatives of waxoil contain but is the "used" oil element now refinned?

There seems to be a bit of confusion here.

"Waxoyl" is a proprietory rustproofing treatment which is still very much in use.

It used to be common practice to get a similar, although shorter lived, effect at much less cost by coating the underside of the vehicle with used engine oil. This is what has been outlawed.

Glad to hear that John - my navigator who runs his own garage has just treated my 1973 range rover beach buggy with the stuff and I thought I was going to have to do a citizens arrest on him! LOL

Manos - I have spent a lot of time in Greece and it doesn't suprise me for one moment that this is common practise over there - but please think before dispensing advice on an ENGLISH forum - someone might actually try one of your suggestions and get into a lot of trouble and cause environmental problems in the process!

I may be wrong but I have been told by several different people that you can no longer use wax oil. It may be that you need special equipment now which they don't have or some health and safety rule that says that garages are not allowed to have people use it with ought special training I am not sure. does any one know?

In the current issue of "Land Rover Owner International" magazine, there is an advert for a product called "KLEENtect"

There is a testemaonial for the product from a gentleman who drives from Colonsay to the mainland when the tide is out. He claims that after using this product and driving through salt water for 7 months his landys underside is still perfect.

I have no link to this product and have not used it myself, but I have read positive comments about it. Just thought you might like to know that there is an alternative to wax oil.

O that makes more sense now. Old wax oil use banned ( old oil). New wax oil allowed.

Please cover your ears those of you that work for the environment agency, health advisers government bodies regarding carcinogenic ect ect. Does anyone know of a garage that will still use the old wax oil as it lasts much much longer and is cheaper. Please pm me unless you fancy continuing the arguments on here!!!!! ( I am not driving to Greace or any other country for the privilidge of spraying old oil about would rather wach the rust build)

Driving to Greece it will merely cost you just over £ 2,000 return for 2 people and that includes, a 1 night hotel stay each way, all petrol, food and drinks, a 1st class 2in cabin on SUPER FAST Ferry from Anconaand a 7mtr boat on a trailer too. LOLOL

True but washing my car costs £3.50 but then that requires effort on my part. Would rather spend the time washing the boat.
Prob better to just sell it and get a new one every year. After a year they are starting to lose compression anyway. Don't seem to like doing 60 in second up hills with the boat on the back!
