Down there a couple of weeks ago and nearly had a siezure when I saw fuel was £1.62 a litre. Ended up using Falmouth but that was still £1.53.

I had a chat with the water taxi guy who was refulelling his 150hp from jerry cans by the public pontoon. I commented that he had the right idea and he mentioned that Mylor only provide fuel as a 'service' because their holding tank is very small and they can't buy at competitive prices. (I guess that getting a full artic lorry down the hill and round the corner would be fun.) However, given that at the local petrol stations gas was about £1.18 I very nearly went and bought some jerry cans myself.

That wasn't me, but I do the same thing. 20L plastic jerry cans from MacSalvors for £15.22, save that per can, almost.

I take mine on the trailer to Asda. With the Asda card i get an additional 2p/ltr off. It's a bit tight dragging it through the payment kiosks.

Hi, just thought I`d pass on my experience in Ribs and diving on the North Coast, if its any help.
Any boating off North Cornwall is not for the faint hearted.
I used to have a mooring for a hard boat(9m Taskforce) in Newquay Harbour and have also had experience launching ribs there, to be honest, it`s a bit of a nightmare unless you have a very able vehicle, the sand shelves very slowly inside the harbour and you have to go in a long way to get your boat off.
You can also launch at Padstow(copyright R.Stein) and across the otherside at Rock; I`m told that Rock has a slightly longer tidal window in which to launch than Padstow, approx 2-2.5hrs either side of HW.
Down at Hayle there is a hard but quite steep slipway which Ive seen Ribs up to 7m launched with a possible 3hrs either side of HW but I would not cut it as fine as this without some experience(!) Launching/Recovery is £12 there are some facilities during normal hours(toilet, freshwater etc) but they don`t like you loading the boat at the bottom of the slip for some bizarre reason, so be prepared for a little pedantry if you go there ever.
There is a sandbar to negotiate at the seaward end of the Hayle River which moves constantly and there is a dredging programme about to commence there shortly. I suggest you do a low-water recce and see where the channel currently lies before attempting to use the port, at HW +or -1.5hrs you can go in and out at will without worrying about the channel, at 2-2.5hrs you really need to have an idea where the channel is!
If none of this has put you off, the North Coat has much to offer but take care !!

My local Gulf is now down to £1.10 per litre.

However if the Ruskies have anything to do with it I can't see this lasting much longer, BP have already closed 2 piplines in Georgia

You can launch at Rock almost anytme except low springs, you used to be able to launch then but the sand is a little higher atm. I heard they were gonna start dredging Hayle this week, which will help a little.

every cornishman knows that
There is a little bakers shop right on the harbour side car park at St Mawes they sell some of the best pasties i have ever bought

Unless you've tried a Philps you can't comment. Portreath bakeries are OK, had a piece of carrot cake form there the other day that was as dry as cardboard.

Crantock Bakery pasties used to be good when they were made in Crantock by Bradshaws the Butcher, all went to pot when they expanded.

My mum ain't no good at making pasties

The little shop in Mylor bridge make their own, they're quite good.

You`re everywhere, like the wind?
Yes dredging is about to commence at Hayle, and there is also a new Harbourmaster and according to my mate Rob he`s a breath of fresh air! We`ve had to move our boat(Razorbill a 9m taskforce for anyone not in the know) to allow a second dredger to come in, we now have temporary mooring next to Philps Pasty bakery(ooh the gravy!)
As for launching at Rock, I didn`t realise you had such a large window, i`d like to get out from there and dive the REWA one day, it`s a bit far to go from Hayle in Razorbill so I`d take the Rib up.
