Cornwall launching

Hi, since this started as sombody just asking for advice,as I did last year about Cornwall (and got replies without a war starting, whats changed since then?) We were based at the Lizard, and launched at Penzance, loads of room for parking next to slip for car and trailer, brilliant area, and all facilities in carpark. We also launched at Falmouth, but waited until teatime, parked the trailer in carpark next to the slipway, and car in pay and display carpark next door, locals told us did'nt need to pay for trailer, or launching, as no-body there after 1700hrs,may have been even earlier, so another good reason to leave it until then, still had plenty of time on the water, and as Mollers says, excellent area for cruising, even if the weater is naff, still use the river, although a sure there is a speed limit in force.
Had a run over to New Quay without the rib to check out launching, struggled to park the car, let alone a trailer, great place for a visit, but launching off an ever decreasing beach, with an ever increasing queue of people who can't back a trailer up, is not my idea of a holiday, great fun for all the spectators on the sea wall though!!!
Hope that helps, we had a great holiday in Cornwall, and will be back!!
Cheers, Charlie..........

I reckon that this particular 'nobber' is rather more familiar with the M25 than 'Cawnworl'.

Rock?

Digs,

Was down at Rock last week - there are buoys there - either for visitors or permanent.

Rock Marine Services may be able to help.

Was thinking of taking the little 4m down there for a week or so.

Chris,

The one thing I forgot to take down last week was the Beachmasters phone number!

Thanks

Digs,

Will give you a bell.

Duncan

Booked it

Just got myself a mooring (+- 3.5hrs HW availability) in Rock for 8th - 14th August for the 4m.

About £70 plus £20 ish harbour dues.

Rock Marine Services run a ferry to get you out to the moorings although at £75 for the week it's more than the mooring!

Will let you know how I get on.

Its a nice place to head out from.... you have Gulland and Newland islands when you head out of the estuary. Gulland is the further out to your left and you can often see seals on the mainland side of the Island

If you head out left across the bay towards Port Quin and take it fairly slowly you may well spot some Dolphins as well.

Have fun

My rib is based in Mylor, very friendly but not the cheapest for moorings.

There's usually a pod of dolphins hanging around the estuary at Padstow somewhere. 2 years ago we had dozens around us as well as 3 basking sharks.

Just read the whole thread, quite amusing.

I'm not Cornish but have lived here since '76, I've spent most of the time in the sea (diving) or on the sea (snorkelling/boating). I went to school at Newquay and DJ'ed around Cornwall for 27 years (including 16 at the Bowgie).

My experience of the Cornish coast is on a good day you can't beat the north coast, unfortunately there are more bad days than good. I based my boat charter from Mylor as it was cheap & closer than Falmouth, and, the south coast will allow me more days out. I do 150 dives a year myself around Cornwall, I always prefer the north coast but out of those 150 dives only 30'ish are on the north coast because of the weather/conditions.

I must have 'staggered about' to your deft spinning of the 'wheels of steel' on a few occasions. Bowgie was an every Friday event for our gang. The Cult, Billy Idol, Tuborg Gold in Dustbins and 'real deal' original surf chicks. Heaven.
Did you bump into Roy Cruse on the Newq DJ circuit?

Don't recognise the name.

I spent 16 years at the Bowgie, 5 years Loft & L2, 3 years Isobar, Berties/Fosters/Koola/Sailors/Corkers/Plum Tree on and off for years as well as hotels and camp sites around Newquay. Started DJ'ing the Bowgie in 1980! 3 years mobile before that. God I'm old

On top of that I've worked in builders merchants all over Cornwall too.

Yeah, we were going over there during the mid-eighties to early nineties. You must have workeed with some of the Biggies Jules, Digweed etc. Judge Jules kicked off in Newquay. He's Rick Stein's nephew apparently.

Unfortunately, Newquay has lost it's these days.
