Converting Jockey seat into a Fuel tank

I am interested to see if its possible to get a fuel bladder that will fit into the Leeway single jockey seat I have on Danny Boy.

I have done som rough calcs and I reckon the volume inside the Jockey is about 65 litres of space that I currently dont use.

I want the bladder to be installed so that thefilling cap is under the seat cushion then I want to have a hose that can simply be plugges directly into the fuel filter on the transom using some kind of quick release valve.

Any ideas...

I guess firstly I need to find a suitable sized / shaped bladder.

Is a bladder such a good idea? I'll bet there's lots of sharp things in there that will cause a nice wee leak or two. Why not look at the Plastimo / tempo plastic tanks, then just run a fuel hose with your favourite quick connector to the fuel filter? http://www.plastimo.com/catalogue/in...ngID=1&catid=7 or http://www.tempoproducts.com/2004/bd_fuel_tanks1.html as a couple of quick examples

The rigid tanks will probably survive a bit better in there..... and you can also fit fuel guages.

That, or have a fiberglass or aluminum guy custom build a rigid tank.

here's a money saving idea, what about just pouring the petrol into the jockey, and then stick a hose pipe into it direct into the engine, and to stop it slopping around, chuck in bits of old foam!! (your boats not faster than mine)

You'd be surprised how tough bladders are.

I wouldn't bet on the outcome Pete, Matt will just pick the roughest course possible then nail into it hoping he doesn't stuff it...

I can't see any issues with using a bladder under the jockey so long as:

1. The inside of the jockey is smooth without any burrs or sharp projections.

2. The jockey frame is a fairly open design with plenty of ventilation on all 4 sides both near the lower and upper portions of the sides. Be sure that liquid fuel cannot pool at the inside bottom of the jockey frame (can drain onto the open deck) and that vapour can't be trapped under the seat. The bladder would be much safer than a plastic or metal gas can.

I have spoken to a local fabricator who reckons he can do me an aluminium tank for around £100.

I have taken some measurements and worked out the design and according to my maths I should get about 36 litres capacity.

The tank will be about half and inch smaller all round than the inside of the seat so that I can stick foam in between the tank and the base to provide plenty of support.

Fuel cap (with thumb screw vent)
aluminium threaded collar or Fuel neck to suit cap above
Fuel pickup and plate for attaching to tank.

Have a look at this:-

Filler caps and stuff

Not sure how it'd stand up to salt, but worth contacting them to ask. You could add a separate breather to the tank fairly easily.

Yeah not easy to find what I am after Ideally I want a vented cap so that I can close the vent easily.

A plastic lawnmower fuel tap like this
in a breather hose would do that.

Chris, sounds like you need the filler and breather off the top of a tempo fuel tank which would also allow a fuel gauge to be fitted. Have a look at this picture to see what I mean.
