Console question

My Humber Attaque has a very narrow console - which is, to be honest pretty shabby and well, knackered!

First question is how will the console be joined to the deck? I'm guessing that somewhere along the console flange will be some bolts hidden under the gelcoat?

Second question is has anyone recommendations for a slightly wider console - preferably something that will accomodate a windshield to give some protection for thie instruments?

I've no idea about how Humbers are put together, but like the name of your RIB - and we can be pretty sure of what colour it is

I dont pretend to be an expert on this but there are usually 2 ways of doing it. on my old vailiant the console and seatign were screwed into the gelcoat with self tapers. However the idiot that i bought it off had used self tappers so long that they went through the gelcoat (about 10mm) and out the other side.
If yours are done that way make a note of how thick the gelcoat and do not pierce it when screwing the new console in. Also cover both the screw and the hole in silicon before screwing it in.

The other way that a lot of the ''heavy duty'' rib manufacturers are doing ie. Ribcraft and Delta is fiberglass bonding there fittings to the deck. The Prosport that i am likely to order in the next week is done this way too. it is undoubtably more waterproof and a lot stronger. If your console is joined like this then it will need to be cut off. Dont ask me how...

Hi Denis,

Welcome to Ribnet, the console on my "Attaque" is gelled into the deck with re-inforcing brackets behind. The fuel tank sits underneath the twin pod seats.

Unless you know what you are doing, I would seek proffesional help. There is a section of Plywood under the console which surounds it at the base I do not think you can go wider than this, Check with Humber first as it may affect the structural integrity of the hull.

I had an attaque about 6 years ago. That also had a narow console, probably the same I imagine. The console on that was just glassed to the deck.

To be honest although cutting it off sounds dramatic it shouldn't be that bad and a new one should cove any deck problems.

Denis Consoles are sold by Outhill, Bembridge, Ocean. and Fusion , but you may find if you contact one of the newer builders. Solent ribs, Olmec, Prosport they might also be able to do you a good deal. I like this website and the consoles they sell

Hey Humpster, you've gone all Scorpion owner on me and got things wrong, it was Cookee that mentioned B*****o, I reccommended Raffshore, who incidentally is B*****o's partner in crime so to speak.

Ave U managed to find a drive plate yet?

Plate tracking is going OK thanks.

Hamilton say they have never put a drive that Big on a rib

Avon say that Matey wot knows is on hols

Caterpillar said it's not their part, but they'd be happy to send someone out at 38 pound per hour inc travelling time.

But I am getting there should have it by Monday
