Console joint failure

Was out today with Bam Bam and a mate doing a spot of wave jumping, all was well until I copped one and landed sideways and gripped the console with my legs, my console decided it had had enough of been stuck to the deck and departed, I stayed in the boat as did the console.

The failure was down to poor prep on my side when I glassed it in. The area was sanded and cleaned with acetone. I thought the rough deck surface would provide a good bonding area... it didn't.
Anyway 75 screws and washers have been ordered as it has a perfect flange to screw it down now.

Hopefully this will help anyone else fitting their own console.

Roll on the gaffer tape jokes.............

About a year but due to messing about with engine this was the first real abuse it had. I had used it in rougher weather and it was fine but had never taken any real sideways force. If the joint hadn't failed I'd have probably been swimming.

Sorry mate but I just cant stop laughing!!! It was so funny heading back into Staithes... throttle on and Chewy and console glide elegantly to back of boat... throttle off, Chewy and console head for the bow. Its the best adjustable seating I've ever seen!

You could tidy things up with a couple of courses of bricks.

Well done - that's sorted the GRP to deck problem.

Let's all now hope your GRP doesn't come away from the console, or you'll be needing another 61 screws.

The bricks might be a bit sore on the ankles so you could glass over them, just make sure you prep the deck well or the glass won't stick
