Been a very interesting & long read. I still find it hard to believe that @ 20% of people believe that legislation will help & not be the usual expensive restrictive pointless cock-up that government provide as a matter of course !! I really hope that we don't look back at this point in time as when owning a boat became as restrictive as owning a car with taxes (based on engine size) annual mot, emissions test, SORN if you don't tell them why your boat's not going to be used that season thereby not getting tested/insured/taxed, mandatory test if you want to let your wife, girlfriend, child, mate have a go at the helm etc etc
Doesn't bear thinking about !!

I've just ordered a few stickers and a flag from the Ribnet shop, and it crossed my cabbaged mind that Ribnet could produce a kill cord sticker, charge a couple of quid and maybe make a donation to a suitable charity, RNLI, possibly even one them double sided stickers to go on your screen, kill cord reminder one side and Ribnet the other. obviously there would need to be instructions as to which side of the screen to stick it, us lot not being too bright
most probably already been suggested, I'm still a week behind the times, bloody chemo

That's exactly what i do, i have on on my LJ not a D ring but round the webbing strap at my side on the same side as my throttle(i can see it being a pain if it was attached to the middle of my body), the wife has one on hers, but there is also one on the tube of the backrest on my seat "just in case".

Yes,its not infallible, but makes it very had to drive the boat without my LJ on and the kill cord attached.
I've never had steering issues,or got it caught up with the throttle, but then it may be that my boat lends it self to this position.

Is it really a good idea to fit the KC onto a L.J.

Surely for safety reasons the KC is far more effective and has less chance of getting wrapped around the steering wheel if connected to ones leg, as it is at the lowest point so will always be below the wheel even if you have to move your position for whatever reason.

+1 for that mine goes round my leg or I clip them to my boots as I have 2 cords to contend with I would end in a right mess with them on my LJ

I think it is a case of what works best for you. I have always found round my leg above the knee works well in my case on lots of different boats. But others may find on the LJ is better.

On the wrist is bad because it WILL tangle in the steering and it CAN slip off if you exit the boat

I was only thinking of on the LJ as then you can't forget to clip it the the switch before starting the engine.

Thinking a bit more if you do need to unclip - for example for coming along side or changing helm etc, you'd kill the engine which may not be practical / desirable.

May stick to round the leg as I currently do with spare in cargo net on console after all!

I will be afixing a nice big REMEMBER THE KILL CORD notice to the console though.

I always have small carabiner clipped on my belt, and I attach the loop of the KC onto the carabiner. Not only is the waist belt the most comfortable and secure attachment point, is also the least likely to cause an unwanted disengagement of the cord since my waist moves around considerably less than my limbs piloting a boat.

Thanks John, no rush, won't be boating again till the bank holiday weekend, marshalling on the Plains Rally next Saturday in mid Wales

I was just thinking that maybe a neutral sticker from Ribnet may be more acceptable

We clip to the crutch strap of the LJ as we find wrapping the cord around your leg significantly limits the cord effective length and your freedom of movement. I've killed the engine a couple of times just standing up to look around.
