Compact Leisure RIB - 200HP - Any ideas??

I am intesested in purchasing a RIB which can take a 200HP engine. I want the RIB to be as portable as possible and so am really looking for the smallest RIB capable of taking an engine of this size, as I do alot of trailering.

Can anyone suggest anything ???

You seem to like over powering your boats! I would think a 6m is the smallest you could put a 200HP on and even then at a push. A Ribcraft 585 performs very well with a 150opti, but thats the max it will take. I would think 6.5m would be the right sort of size.

Mark, 6.5m would be the smallest high speed sensible option, and 6m probably quite scary depending on the rib (Tohatsu/Solent) rather than a heavier Ribcraft / Delta hull. Phil has a Delta 5.5m for sale that could be really interesting

No i haven't a spare 200HP sitting round, I'm just addicted to RIBS again and when I went to the Southampton show, I had a run in a rib with a 200HP Suzuki - it was just fabulous!!!!

I wonder whether the answer is to find something that takes a 150 and drop a 175 Suzuki on it... they are the same weight

I'm looking for something 5.5m at a max. How close to 200HP could I get on this. At the mo, my Zodiac at 5.3 meters has a 140 on it.... Is this actually about as good as I'm going to get for boat length????

I guess I'm cheating a bit now, as my Zod is actually rated at 115, but my dealer helpfully pointed out that the 140 was actually lighter...

Are there not any real tough, but smallish boats out there, that at 5.5m, will let you sling on say even 175????

I think CJL said he had a 150opti on a 5.5m Humber, which was lively! I would think 150 is the absolute max on a 5.5m and even then probably well over the limit.
Just had a quick look on the net, Ribcraft 5.3 max 100HP, 5.85 150HP.
Humber Destroyer 5.5m 130HP

Maybe i've reached a pretty safe limit then... until I can either find somewhere to store a bigger boat or get a bigger car lol!!!

The 140hp & 5.3m RIB seems about as far as I can go. Thanks for your input though. Now all we need is a little sunshine!!!

Once you've scared yourself s***less in a bit sea with the set-up that you have, you might think that a 140 on a 5.5m is plenty enough.

My Northcraft has a 150 Opti, should rev to 5750 but i'm a bit chicken and only had 48kts out of her at 5200 (likes to chine walk beyond this) . The transom is rated for 175, but this is a bit silly. No one needs more than 150 in a 5.5m or less boat. The pickup is amazing and its either stationary or planing.

I've been amazed by how steady my Yachtline is. I went in a Zodiac pro, with a 2 stroke 140 a few years back and it chine walked all over the place. My YL is rock solid, even with one up. Seems like my search for extra power is unfounded .... or at least ill advised. I think I may just increase my prop from 21" to 23".... as pickup at present is plenty good enough.

What difference is this likely to make.. anyone any ideas???

If you get bored with that then give it to me it would do nicely for my first RIB

Looking for speed, a friend of mine has the same rib as me...Ring 5.85, his is fitted with a Yam 130, perhaps one of the fastest ribs V hp, after a few years of messing with props engine heights it now runs 59mph on gps with no chine walking and very good fuel economy, most boats that try to run with it have a 150+ and still fail
