Fantastic - thanks for all the replies! Ribcraft do seem to be more pricey secondhand - I did come across an article stating new price of £7500 with a 60 Mariner and trailer this must be some years old now...

urrm what photo?

However you can usually get a good cover made by a sail maker. The only firm i know is custom covers in Southampton

I've had Humber Assault 5m from the beginning of this season and I've been happy with the boat. Assault may look a bit like a work boat but its solidly built and is good value for money. With 50 hp 4 stroke Merc the top speed is around 32-33 kts 1 pers on board.

There is only one thing that I'd like to cange in the boat and that is the tube height together with the tube attatchment flange. The tube is set low and the flange points downwards. This makes the ride harder especially in short and sharp chop.

I would not start messing about with the tubes!

Hi Rogue - was speaking to Barnett marine earlier - they said there had been problems with 'osmosis' on the searunner due to the wet hull. Ever come across such a thing? - saw a 2002 model on ebay that had been glassed over- surely this would affect the stability? George

It's a shame that Barnett marine have to stoop to rubbishing their competitors as I think the XS product is probably able to stand up for itself.

If you block off the tubes you just have a hull with the same bouyancy stabilty as any other rib. Re Osmosis did you ask em why there are so many old seariders out there if the Osmosis is a problem.

when i went out to get my first rib i saw loads of old seariders
and about the only thing letting them down was the engines on the back
most were very sound some were 1985 still looking good

dan

the 4.7 searider that was on ebay would be a good buy but the engine as 500 hours and the 50 hp is abit small see how much you could get off its on boats and outboards

You raised the question of folding drawbars. I have seen very few (i don't know whether it is legal or not) but engineering a detachable drawbar has always struck me as very simple for a smaller trailer where the issue of brakes is not an problem. Below is an example from the US

Thanks Daniel - I've emailed to see if it's still for sale! Yes 500 hours sounds a lot though I came across an american site with a Yam 70 reckoned to have don 1700 hours no problems

This obviously proves that Seariders and the older Avon ranges were made to last and have lasted the test of time, however the engines do not and no doubt a 15 year old engine is going to both be trouble and look like a lump of crap

Not necessarily bilge my engine is 14 years old (1992) and runs very well. The key is how much use it has had. My boat was used as a tender to a very large yacht and lived on the foredeck. The engine probably hadnt done much more that 4 knots! Although the engine graphics look a little dated the engine is actuallly in showroom condtion because it was kept covered up. And it will piss all over the equivalant brand new 4 stroke

Nicely put Ads and again i'm finding i have to agree with Rogue on the draw bar thing

I understand all to well the older engine thing as i've spent the last 18 months throwing handfulls of cash at my now knackered 15 year old Evinrude engine, i've now done what i should have done 17 months ago and bought a new engine.

RIP Evinrude 50HP 2 stroke

For sale....... 1 Evinrude 50HP 2 stroke outboard........would make a perfect anchor !! one careful owner
