Chinook ribs-whaddya know?

I've noticed a lot of Chinook ribs for sale. What are they like?

Sort of pointy at the front and surrounded by a big squashy tube....

They were built in Cheshire from the year dot until about 93-94 when they were bought out by Delta. They moved into ribs from building inflatables, many which have lasted over 20 years.

The Sea Fury range from about 92 were excellent sea boats and came in a range of sizes up to about 7m many with inboard petrols which were more economical than outboards at the time (and a bit more reliable) However the range came too late (against stiff competition) to save the company. There were some smaller chinooks, which were very competent for diving, but worth checking to see if they are medium or deep v depending on your needs. They were all hand built and lasted well even when abused by divers.

Old post I know but if like me your searching the forum and all over the internet for info on Chinooks this might be of interest .
I have recently bought an old 5.5 sea fury and unless I'm missing something I'm not finding much info.

I wanted to know if the Chinook Sea Fury was the predecessor to the Delta Dash and did they use any of the Chinook moulds in the early days.
I have a hull id plate with number and want to know how old the rib is.

I emailed Delta ribs and Charles Dyas has come back to me and said

" I started Chinook in the first instance and took in a partner. The partnership was split up and Chinook went it’s separate way, Subsequently the owner then sold out to his works manager, Tony who ran it for a number of years before deciding that he wanted to go flying helicopters, if I remember correctly. Tony offered the business to me and I bought it with the vision of Delta pursuing the Commercial / military boat market with Chinook being the leisure model brand. None of the records survive.
The only person who may possibly be able to help you is Kevin Goulding who runs the Hot Ribs website as he ran a Chinook Sea Fury for a number of years.

So with those questions answered I have know emailed Kevin at hot ribs and we will see what he knows.
If Anyone else has got any info or opinions on the Chinook sea fury please get typing.

A really good boat, was excellent sea keeping and great fun to handle. Not like many 'modern' ribs I've used lately

Not sure how old this thread is but thought I'd jump in and say my UK built Chinook is still going strong, sunning its self in Sydney. I brought it over three years ago, on a ship (no I didn't drive it over)! A 4.8Mtr red beast.

Holy thread resurrection Batman a sea fury 5.5 has just caught my eye not what I was looking for but looks very tidy and well priced anyone still got a sea fury? When were they made? 92-95?

I've just found this as well, after a red one popped up on Facebook marketplace. Looks a nice boat for the money, with a nice old yam 2 stroke!

I nearly brought one years ago.

From memory it was @6.5M.
Unfortunately it had a Petrol inboard, which put me off, but other than that I remember thinking what a nice boat it was.

Tucked up in Port Talbot by any chance??

Not mine but know the boat and the previous owner. Well maintained and a good boat, albeit it a little wet when in a larger sea.

Sounds like the one. It is south wales. £4000. Seems a good price, assuming it all works as it should an no hidden nasties.
