Chasecraft RIBS

Hi

Does anyone have any experience - good or bad - with Chasecraft RIBs?

Looking at a 6m version but have no idea how they may perform

Mainly going to be used in the Solent and occasionally other areas like Cardiff, Torbay, Cornwall etc and would like reasonable seakeeping properties.

Haven't heard of them at all so maybe they have not cracked into the market.

They were made in Christchurch I believe, I remember seeing a few on land somewhere around there ~15+ years ago, but don't think they are made anymore. Afraid I don't have any direct experience with them other than seeing some in a little Christchurch boat park somewhere!

I don't think they ever built more than a handful of boats, and that was a long time ago.

I had a demo on one at the time and as I recall it was well enough made with a good finish. The hull had a pronounced reverse chine which meant it performed well without needing masses of horsepower. It stayed very flat in turns though which could be a bit disconcerting for unsuspecting passengers.

I didn't get to try it in the rough, but I would expect it to have a harder ride than a more conventional deep V hull.

We met one of the RIB International team ( Steve ? ) at Cushendal/Redbay just after they had done the test of the 6.5 c/w 200hp & were told that the day of the test was rough & the RIB was very close to doing a barrel roll on two occasions.

Thanks for all your helpful comments. Having seen the RIB I decided against it. It was a good price but would rather save a little more and get a more established brand

I rigged one for the manufacturer a couple of years ago, with a pair of Honda 225's. Nice boat, well made, with a good turn of speed. I believe it was moulded by Ribcraft.

The company was a bit of a plaything for the owner, as his day job was a barrister. Based near Christchurch, you see them around sometimes.
