I'm also new to ribbing and I bought a Garmin 75sv and transducer (doubling the value of the boat). Having sailed on yachts for years plotting positions on a paper chart albeit generally from Decca / GPS co-ordinates I'm happy to say my charts and hand bearing compass have yet to be unfurled in anger whilst on the RIB.

I use the Homeport software to plot / check routes and it contains tides and current data.

Using a chart plotter is possibly the lazy way of navigating but it is very good.

Southampton Boat Show occurs in September so there might be some deals to be had there.

I am also new to ribbing and have just been bought as an incredibly generous gift a dragonfly 7 pro!!

I assume I must be worth more to these people alive than dead

I am really looking forward to using it. But am currently scratching my head about fitting it and can't bring myself to take a drill to my transom
