John,

Thanks for your support I will sit down tomorrow and think this through, then drop you and E mail / PM.

If any one has any ideas how we could publise an auction quickly let me know. The main concern for me would be getting things moving and publicised before the event 18th - 21st June.

David - thanks for your generosity. NB Can I include an "As seen on TV" from Danger on the Beach !

John,

how about creating a fund raising thread which would contain the sub threads of the generous prizes people are offering. Members then bid on the thread for their chosen prize the winner being anounced after an elapsed date.

Could this work?

I think this is a great fund raising idea, bring it on!

may be if someone approached the magazines for advertising this would
have to be free advertising, and would be their way of giving something
i'm am amazed at how this is developing, but we know there are lots more people out there who use rib net who could come up with a donation of a service/ goods or course
nice one Dave Hickman any other schools out there going to give

Tim,

I'm planning to try and make contact with MBY, RIB Int, SB and R etc today to see if they could get involved. Other option which I had thought of and may be easier is some sort of "advert" in Boat Mart or something similar in order to spread the word.

Cheers

Mike

Given the enthusiastic response so far, perhaps it might be worth considering making this into a series of auctions over a longer period -- that way the publicity would accumulate and we could potentially have different charities for different items.

If we put everything up in one go it might dilute the available buying power and get a wide spread of lower bids, rather than higher bids on fewer items.

Just food for thought . . .

If we do make it an auction then what reserve price would donors accept as reasonable? I don't want anyone to end up giving up a day of their time or a bit of expensive kit and only raising a token amount!

Another option would be a raffle, and not close it until sufficient tickets have been bought. I think this would mean a lot more effort and admin hassle though.

John

Have now heard back from Sports Boat and Rib Magazine.

They have offered 12 month subscriptions to the following for auction.

Jet Skier and Personal Watercraft
Sports Boat and RIB
All at Sea Newspaper

Plus I'm hoping they can give us some editorial space.

good point i am happy to see the voucher given to the highest bidder hopefully they will offer that amount(185) or higher as the whole spirit of a charity auction is to pay over the top for goods/service but if it raises less so
be it any more out there going to put up some stuff come on dig deep
it is for charity(now wheres my tin)
