Hi All

Just to say that - especially as I started this thread - in my experience these last few days, Martin is trying his best to do the right thing, and I personally give him credit for that.

Best wishes to you all for the weekend... Maybe better on land than sea!

Steve

And this thread is just a warm up
I thought i had been pretty restrained actually considering the history. I have been on Ribnet since 2004, have lots of friends are on here, some I even met on here. I don't want to see other people ripped of when I am in a position to warn them but I understand there are 2 sides to every conflict and not everyone has had the same experiences as me. Naming and shaming is not always the right approach.

We can all mess up now and again (and like many I have done) but his complete inability to fix the problem, coupled with his snake like tendency to tell lies is a very bad sign. Couple this with the huge number of forum members that have suffered at his hand and I wonder why anyone still attempts to do business with the trickster.

Not having been involved in this current situation but watching from afar as it were, I do feel the Administrators have to take notice of some of the points that are being made in relation to site security and members safeguarding in such situations.
I know it is hard to be an adudicator in such matters especially when there's money involved by way of trade subscription but there is a moral aspect to this issue (and I am not taking the 'high' ground) in relation to the thousands of 'ordinary' punters that keep the forum going and give trade members trade. Surly the forum is built on mutual trust as a starter and the sharing of knowledge and information to like-minded people, some of whom become friends, also is paramount. With that in mind is there no way that we could support some method that would protect the 'good' traders and notify the members/supporters of 'situations so that people are not loosing money.
I maybe, and some tell me I always am wrong, but I would be interested what others think; we should be looking out for each other!

You're right Jambo, in the sense that the forum is already available for both parties to make their feelings known. In this specific case, there had been problems that were publicly discussed over quite a period of time. A very limited number of members (I suspect) had problems with Channel RIBs and some restitution was made. Other members voiced their support for the seller and in turn, some of them were burned. All this was played out in the public eye and despite claims (jovial or otherwise) of Admin nobbling, the whole horrible story/s is still available to read.

Personally, I think that the attraction of a cheap offshore VAT free deal was more than some could resist. Greed is the hook on most scams. My advice would be to support Trade members if they have a good deal for you but take all the usual precautions and pay by credit card. The same goes for members generally. We're mostly good sorts, but beware the cuckoo in the nest!

One thing that I try to do is buy from local dealers not always possible I know but you can go and see them and sometimes get as good a deal as on the net and better

I'd suggest you flip that idea on its head and treat anyone here you don't know as though they want to steal your boat, wipe out your bank balance and kidnap your children/grandkids.

There is no reason to believe that rib netters are any different to the rest of society/internet. There WILL be some dodgy ones in here. Just because someone likes ribs (or seems to) doesn't mean they aren't a devious lying idiot or an incompetent fool who can't look after their customers.

And where did the current system fail? Because the transactions were not publicly on the forum and the user was not a trade member for a few years at least.

Okay well I will keep my thoughts to myself in future as I seem to have alienated two regulators. I did not think anywhere on the thread did I have a 'swipe' at any of the Admin team. I fully appreciate all that you do to safeguard us members but I was probably looking for a simplistic answer to the present situation regards know 'trade' members that were as they say having difficulty. Poly I am not that stupid or naive as to think all members are 'white'
I'll just crawl back into my hole and vegetate. No I won't one last rant............... I still think you have to promote open discussion in an objective not subjective way as really don't think anyone is having a 'go'

Agree with the above 100%. There's never been any pruning of threads in order to support trade members or hide any 'dodgy dealings'.

There's been a couple (if I remember correctly) where some of the more vitriolic rantings have been bilged because it was taking an unrelated thread off track.
A few posts have been completely removed because lynchmob mentality/sexual images or suggesting in capitals where you'd like to insert someone's boat/car/goldfish/family/weekly shopping is a little much (remember, children read the forum too).

However, we don't set out to protect anyone's business dealings. If it happens because you're silly enough to post a 4 letter rant about someone as your first post then that's your fault.
