Huge respect to the Pilot(s) for the original beaching plus the tug crews and salvage company for a successful recovery. This could have been so much worse all round....

Total respect Simon. I understand there was some pretty shite weather for a couple of days and a tug suffered some damage but keeping the vessel in position and stable enough for the salvage boys to do their bit, in what must be some pretty horrendous conditions in the ballast tank/car deck areas, is a full-on achievement in my book.

Hi Ian

Was on on the scene from about 35 minutes into the start of the incident back on the 3rd and have been there pretty much since. I've Been the liason between us and the salvage crews since they arrived on the 4th/5th.

I went onboard on many occasions for various reasons almost from the start and am lucky enough to have some incredible (but sensitive) pictures from the car decks....

This picture may not look like much but if you zoom in you will see a large JCB shovel loader of approx 14-15t which was parked on the port side of one of the car decks. Bearing in mind that I took the picture while she had a 55 degree list then you realise that the shovel loader is actually hanging about 38m above your head as you clamber out onto the car deck. Worst of all is that it was hanging from 3 ratchet straps!!

Yes Barrowboy, unfortunately one of our vessels suffered some considerable damage to her main mast and port side exhaust system. No one was hurt though and we will be starting the repairs shortly....

Good job

Quick thinking by the blokes that put it on the sandbank too, that's what you call a decisive action that must have left one or two doubts in the mind at the time! Without that, I guess the port might well still be closed with a great lump of ship parked in the channel.
