Can you glue Hypallon on to PVC??

I'm just looking the various possibilities of repairing my RIB. I was thinking that If I put a patch of hypallon on the bottom of the tubes and on the sides forward it will be OK for a few more years.

The questions are

1. can it be done?
2. has some one done it before,
3. did it last and
4. how do I do it, i.e. what glues do I use PVC or Hypallon?

Any advise gratefully received.

JW firstly thanks for the Lakonic replies

I have asked the guys here who glue hypallon tubes and told me that they do not know how to glue it as they never done it.

In the question do I use hypallon and PVC glues you say both. What do you mean? If you can explain this procedure with a bit more details I can go ahead and do it next week. Many Thanks

yes it is possible

What you have to do is prime the hypalon with hypalon glue first. So glue the hypalon material with hypalon glue. Leave it in the shade for about 12 hours, then use the pvc glue as normal.

Not sure about how long this will last but some RIB manufactuerers use PVC rubbing strakes on Hypalon tubes.

If you get stuck please feel free to contact me.

Regards

Stephen

Cheers Stephen but still don't understand the hypallon gluing but. You mean to just put the glue on the Hypallon and let it dry for 12 hrs and then put glue on the PVC and stick both together?

I have tried your link but it doesn't work.

Hi Manos,

You need to make sure that you "prime the fabric" with the glue, so if you wanted to stick a hypalon patch to pvc tubes you will firstly prime the hypalon fabric with hypalon glue, then wait as I mentioned before. Then you use PVC glue on both surfaces. Hope that makes sense. drop me a PM if you get stuck, excuse the punn!

Cheers

Stephen
