Can We Have A Members Poll Jk

after the comments from some members regarding new boats and ribex
could we have a owners poll like the J D POWERS CAR poll with ribs instead
list all of the makers list size of boats ie 0m to 5m then 5m to 8m and so on and we could all vote on which we think are best
then if new to ribbing we could look at which makers make the top five and why so we could then avoid the very bad ribs

Maybe marks out of 5 for different areas, ie. quality of construction, after sales support, etc.?

I think that to have a list of ribs in quality/class/ability etc order would lead to those who are unable to afford or have different priorities preventing them from buying the "best" to feel that maybe they are not as respected or serious or indeed know what they are doing.
We all enjoy our sport whatever vessel we own and I feel that to introduce a ribbing "class" list would be detrimental to the forum.
Lets face it, as has been said, we all love our own ribs for our own reasons....if someone is new to the sport let them ask of us our various opinions and from that make a more educated decision on which rib suits their needs.

I agree Solitaire, Its me that decides what i buy. Which magazine tries to force their opinions on people and 95% of the time they talk crap. As you say we all want different things for different reasons...i think people who buy Black Ribs are crazy cos they get red hot in the sun...but then what do i know?

Maybe instead of a poll on new boats maybe we should do a survey of older boats and how they stand up to the test of time, lets face it if you buy a brand new boat today its more than likely to still be floating a year or two's time,ok maybe with a few silly faults or crappy finishes, but what about ten years down the line ? i bet there's not that many 10-15 year old boats still floating and i bet i could make an educated quess which manufacturers they are made by !!
Or as an alternative maybe it should be engines we run a survey on as its not normally the boats that go wrong but rather the engines we tend to experience the most difficulty with, mine of course being no exception as its constantly letting me down.

just an idea though !!

Well they are a few RIBs and SIBs (some since 1980!) and you wont believe the names of the manufacturers

I really can't see the point of a poll, how can an owner of say a 4 metre rib give an "educated" opinion on say which 8 metre to buy?

I think what is needed is a Ribnet "boat test" every so often, where JK and a few wise (might be a difficult one to find) forum members get to try a demo boat for a weekend, and then report on it!

bilge rats

idear is good we good inclued older boats as all boats get old in the end if they don,t make old age they must be crap

I think that to have a list of ribs in quality/class/ability would be very good
and would show new ribbers what to look for. you pay the money so you make
the choice in the end but it would be nice to know from the members that have owned diffent ribs over the years. my choice was made by asking ribnet
about each boat and seeing what comments came back i did not test drive
my boat before buying as you guys had said the set up was ok

your missing the point you only make comments on boats you have owned

Your not looking for a lot of input on this poll then?

And Manos, if your extending that invite to myself, thank you very much but I will have to decline, I only travel to countries where you are able to flush toilet tissue, putting it in a waste basket is not my idea of civilisation!

I think you visited Greece when you were an apprentice and before you opened that little shop of yours . Things have progressed since then.

Realistically though if we did do a poll it would have to be against boats up to 3 years old, any older and it all comes down to the amount of use and abuse the boats taken over the years, i.e left in the water all season against trailerd, club safety boat against the same boat used twice a year for leisure holidays etc and of course the owners own commitment to looking after his investment.

And its also worth remembering that manufacturers like Avon dont make the same sort of boats that they made 20 years ago, these days the buyer wants more refinments and better levels of comfort.

it could be a poll for information about the boats and how they work over time
your views about your boat or one you have used
