can u get married on a rib???????

Has any body had a marriage ceromony at sea, on a rib? Does any body know if this can be done? if so how would we go about it?

Any serious answers please, specifically, are any of you ribbers, memebers of the cloth?(i dont mean on the rag,as i know the answer to that already). i will be wearing an itsy bitsy teeny weeny, minimalistic bikini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think for a civil ceremony, there is something about it having to be a building - so football stadiums for example don't count, as it can't be open air. Of course you can always do the registry bit and then go for a blessing on a boat....

Or you could get a ship's captain to marry you (to each other, not to him) but that has to be outside the 12nm territorial limit.

The short answer is No. due to this clause:-
3.2. The term "premises" is defined in Regulation 2(1) as a permanently immovable structure comprising at least a room or any boat or other vessel which is permanently moored. Any premises outside this definition, such as the open air, a tent, marquee or any other temporary structure and most forms of transport, would not be eligible for approval. In addition, there are requirements in Schedule1 that must be met before an approval can be granted.

The regulations are going to be modified and relaxed but that wont happen for a few years

This is something we are seriously looking at, crazy as it sounds, but why not!!

Do you (or anyone else) know a ships captain who would do this for us.

Don't see why not, surely as long as the right people are present? Down here, folks have got married on mountain tops so I don't see a boat should be any different.

Could a rib owner/driver be considered a captain of his ship?

I have a vague recollection from looking at the regulations (which in scotland were slightly different) a while ago (before you could have a civil marraige almost anywhere) - that the "ships captain" thing was really a bit of an "urban myth" as whilst he can marry you in international waters, because it is in international waters the UK (and most other countries) will not recognise the marraige...

You could get married in a marina (on board) but not really the ambience I think you were looking for. As an alternative why not get married on a beach (or in a suitable building close the beach) and either arrive by or leave by rib?

why not have a word with the RNLI to see if you could use one of their buildings?? im sure they'd be happy to recieve a donation for use of the premises!! you never know as you say the dreaded words they may get an emergency in!! or even better you could both be wearing RNLI gear!! (Not that id really want to get married wearing a drysuit, or even come to think of it get married in the first place!!!) But just a thought!!

Quite honestly, in order to make a valid asessment, The Holey Church of the Rubber God must see a picture of you in said garment in order to determine whether or not this is acceptable to our order... it almost always is (no fat chicks in bikinis) so the picture is a mere formality....if so, you have our blessings!

The wedding we participated in last year involved a civil ceremony at a registry office then all guests got changed into casual clothes and met the boat on a beach. We then ferried groups of 8 to 10 at a time to a small secluded bay which had a very steep and difficult path to it, where the registrar carried out the ceremony again. This was the romantic bit.
The boat was decked out in garlands and ribbon and really looked the part, in fact the groom thanked us for making the boat the highlight of the day, this was out of earshot of his new wife though!

So we have not carried out a wedding on the boat but used it more in the role of a wedding car!
