Can someone advise a weather forecast website?

Can you guys please advise me which website to look for marine weather forecast?

Soemone suggested Windguru but was wondering if those "serious" ribbers have a better source?

You cant really beat looking at the synoptic charts on a regular basis, many of the forecasts on the web use computer models and their accuracy varies.

Having said that, XC and Windfinder are both ok. But for a serious understanding you need to make the call yourself, based on real measurements not predictions alone.

Mmm.... the Met Office, Nasa, and others spend billions on computer models to predict weather, but all you need is the data on a synoptic chart. Whilst I'd agree that you might want to look at a synoptic chart to see if the computer model results make sense, I doubt that if I locked an average ribnetter in a cupboard with just the synoptic charts that they could predict the weather as accurately and repeatedly as a decent computer model.

Personally I quite like zyGrib (which is not a website but downloads data from the net). I think yr.no uses the same data?

Over the years I have used XC, YR no and met. They have all served me well.

I use QX weather and Magicseaweed. Lately magicseaweed has been very accurate and has links to webcams so i can see live what the sea is doing.

All the above are good, and let's not forget the Met Office or BBC Weather with the options to click through to the Coastal or Inshore waters forecast.

For me, it's usually a case of not trusting any one website. If I want the best forecast, I compare several and if they agree I tend to trust them. If they don't, I go to the synoptic charts and make up my own mind which one I agree with (then keep my fingers crossed)

Magic Seaweed and Windguru are the ones I use along with the Met office - MSW especially I like. Lots of details re' waves, the iPhone apps for these too are really good too.

Have they suddenly mandated Met and climatology into the ICC course now or something? Polwart is absolutely right, check your preferred website (or a few) and then if you see conflicting data it might be worth studying a synoptic. Channel - I don't think you went anywhere near suggesting that!

Depends.

Right one measures the Beaufort scale, left measures the aspects of the Douglas scale.

Also dependent on whether I'm walking backwards or forwards and which hemisphere I'm in.
