SIB - Small Inflatable Boat

Has a soft hull - though may have wooden floorboards inside the bottom of the boat is material, it may be flat or in some cases have an inflatable keel.

RIB - Rigid Inflatable Boat

Has a rigid Hull

Both have inflatable tubes

Right, understood "rib" was just uncertain of "sib" sounds like there could be a grey area of the crossover point, I geuss you could get a very small "rib" or alternatively a fairly large "sib"! I don't think I'll go there!

An there was me thinking it was Small Inflateable Boat.
Okay what do you class a 5.85m pure inflatable ( Zodiac Mk5 HD) apart from a 'pig' or 'barge' ?
I have a feeling I might live to regret this

Sibs

My perception has always been that a SIB is a soft inflatable boat as opposed to a rigid inflatable boat. I've been thinking about going into competition with Crazyhorse, Scorpion, Redbay etc. I've put the little un's Wendy house in the Sib and it looks great going up the Staffs and Worcs cut.

Any takers?

Tony Lee Elliot of Flatacraft has already done it. I will try to dig out a photo of it nearly capsizing off of Hayling Bar in 1991. If it had gone over, no one could have saved him for laughing, it was funny. 8 metres of garden shed full of water!!! Alan P
