(the other one planed with half of a twin 30Hp setup 4 up after someone forgot to put oil in one of the tanks- 30Hp on a 5.4 was properly slow, but it still planed - just!) No, a 60 won't be eye wateringly fast, but as you say, your crew may not appreciate 30 Knots on their first trip!

Also most engines around that size band should bolt straight in where the other one came out, so a later upgrade shouln't be too painful......
You could be right there. I'm only going off the difference I found with 3 up instead of the normal 2.
Olly wood be a good person to speak too. He is full of praise for his 60hp on a 5.4 SR.

Off to look this afternoon!!! - fingers crossed we come back with a new toy - bit worried that I'm doing the right thing but you've all helped push some of the worries away.

Apparently she has a couple of patches that were fixed during her commercial life - - I guess worse case scenario are new tubes - gulp!!

Take care

J
The odd patch should be ok. I'd check if all the strake is glued down ok too.

If it's looks ok buy it. Ask him about the elephont speedo's though. And I hope you can haggle him down.
You'll love the searider

If you don't buy it, I might (taking the condition of the tubes into consideration).

JSP, how much are you willing to give for the A-Frame ?

Well we are on the way back from viewing - minus the boat :-(

I'm currently thinking about it but concerns are as follows:

Transom split along top both sides and plywood inners look blown
Transom not straight it bulges half way between top and bottom
Tubes very tired and bubbling
Engine - no wee and what is dribbling out seems to have bits of black rubber in it

Can post some pictures when I get back, depending on the response here we might take up his offer of a reduced
Price under 3k

Thanks all

Talking it through with hubby, he's not going to want it - so if anyone would like the details let me know

JSP - many thanks for the quick response, whilst its very hard to walk away - AS I WANT ONE!! - it's reassuring to know that we seem to have done the right thing - will post the pictures later for interest

Thanks again

Jean

It's the blown ply you can see in the transom that's the biggest turn off. That RIB is best left to someone who knows how to sort it. I wouldn't know where to start!
5.4SR's come up allot on the web, you'll get one soon

Thanks Nos - whilst gutted I'm much happier now I know I've done the right thing - at the end of the day I want to enjoy the experience and part of that is being confident in the boat - not sure I'd have ever managed it in this one

Thanks all

J

Personally, I wouldn't want it - too much weight up there for my liking and if the boat were to tip over, then you'd need the engine, tanks, etc to be inversion-proofed, to get the full benefit of the self-righting gear.

I expect it's worth around £200-£250 if it's all working ok, £150-£200 if it's not and you're just getting a big chunky A-frame.

Not really interested in the self righting gear mate. Just a big chunk A frame!

Because with a 115 you don't have enough weight on the back?
Surely a seriously industrial looking a-frame would look odd sitting alongside your armitage shanks console?
