Build My Own Rib?

Hi Guys,

Would like to upgrade my rib from a petrol outboard to a diesel inboard, however funds are lacking! I am considering building my own rib over 12-24 months with good quality second hand materials / refurbished engine etc. A few quick searches over the net reveals that I can pick up a reasonable rib (no engine) for approx 2-3K. My overall budget is likely to be about 10K.

Are there any amateur Rib builders who could give me some advice prior to starting out on this adventure; is my budget too small etc. Does anyone know of any "Guide to building your Own Rib"?

Or am I completely Mad!!

Regards

Mark

So your going to buy a basic hull and fit it out rather than building the hull from scratch?

If it's the former I think people would agree that thats a great way to go. Loads of people on here have done it (including my self).

Edit: for 10k you can get a lot of seond hand RIB for your money. Have a look on boatsandoutboards.com - you can pick up a P22 diesel RIB on there for about 10k!!!

Yup - intend to buy a second hand boat with no engine and then strip it down to customise to my design. I dont want to do any GRP work on the hull. Would like to get something approx 7m in length. Am I being too fussy, but would prefer the engine bay to be right at the back rather that slightly further fwd as the Pacific 22 are. Just thoughts at the moment.

Pete,

I think she is a bit too much 'heavy duty' for my liking. Thanks for the photo though.

Cheers

Why do you consider changing from a petrol engine to an oil-fired piece of pig iron an "up grade"..??

Upgrade was probably the wrong word to use..... I need something to be slightly kinder on my wallet with regards to fuel.. current engine 200 Vmax!

Also the misses has said she wants a sunbathing deck and an inboard provides that!
