Bristol/Cardiff/Barry/Weston

The last few years, being based in Leicestershire we've moved the rib to Menai or the Solent but we're thinking of Bristol this year.

We prefer to leave the boat in a secure site and launch rather than hauling it to and from Leicetershire.

Can anyone recommend a good boat store/caravan store/quiet field with other boats and good launching in this sort of area please?

The usual plan is launch, play for the day, put away and go home. So if you can also recommend good places to go that'd be good as well please

Hi dude there's a cruise in a few weeks time from Bristol to Cardiff and back, there's a social evening too. Might be worth going to that and meeting the local boys from Bristol & wales.

You will need to Consider the tidal limitations not many places allow launching at low tide due to the range on the Severn many are only usable at an hour or 2 either side of high water

Cardiff has a dry store and pontoons but aren't cheap and probably not what you were looking for with locks into the channel same at Swansea not sure but portishead might be an option (has a marina)

You will need to go a long way further down channel than Brizzle to get all states of tide access !.

There are NO all states access Ports ..just Locks at Swansea Bristol Portishead and Watchet on the South Coast..best/easiest access.. location for exploration, and amenities,is definatly Cardiff
You can ring around for deal as there are several mooring/launching options.
...A Lundy trip is a must!
60nm along the North Devon Coast by far the most scenic route

Depends on the size of the boat..... we can launch at any tide from the beach but no secure storage at launch (some not too far away) smaller boats easier the smaller boat opens up more options. Cardiff you can launch at channel view slip (public) other wise it's the clubs or boatyards. Should be able to lock out at all tides (as long as draft is under 2m according to website)
Nearly got stuck in porlock weir recently and seeing the low tide images on google street view I'm glad we left when we did!
And SARA were called out to 2 jet skis beached on he Severn on Sunday afternoon and they draft a couple of rizla.....

So it's a tricky stretch of water but plenty of options I would composer the traffic and the M5 can be awful getting round Bristol in summer, at least with Cardiff you can avoid the M5 after strensham and take the M50/A449

Yeah and if you've got a Model Boat you can launch it out the Car window without stopping in a few places!

The OP is talking about a 6.5 m Humber...Not so many options believe me..I've lived in the area all my life.
The Bristol Channell is NOT the sort of place to Beach/ Trailer launch a RIB of that size

We have 4x4 tractors to launch and recover on beach. But a 6.5m probably better off with a marina slip or a berth for the season.

Not sure if Swansea has full tide access to the marina never used it.

Porthcawl call doesn't I don't think, afan doesn't but nice easy slip and has storage (cheap too)
