Breakdown Recovery
I have to renew my Breakdown Recovery this week.
At present I am with National Breakdown and I am paying £128 for two vehicles. Its a lot I know but they will recover the trailer if a wheel falls off. Or so they said last year. I shall be phoning them up to confirm this if I renew with them.
Any one got any ideas where I should look for cheaper cover ?
I've tried Elephant.co.uk but they won't recover broken trailers.

Well I am with the AA and I am covered personally so it doesn't matter how many vehicles I have. Can't remember how much I pay but it's a lot less than you.
The AA don't apparently guarantee to recover a trailer but in practice they always do. I have spoken to quite a few of their drivers and they didn't even know trailer recovery wasn't guaranteed!!!

Well as you know Biggles, ive been with international breakdown for several years now. but they are dear in comparrison, so this year ive changed to
brittania rescue, personal cover for any vehicle and cover to the same degree for my partner, with a guarantee to recover the trailer if bearing fails etc. for 105.00.

I've had the AA recover an accident-damaged trailer for me, but they refused any help at all when a bearing failed. I wouldn't want to rely on them for help with a trailer without getting some sort of confirmation first.

Used to use these people a few years ago, as well as other policies they offer an insurance type scheme, you pay the recovery agent direct and then they pay you, did use them once and had a cheque by return post.

I had the same problem going to the lakes, the AA wouldnt recover my twin wheel trailer, because they said it was to wide. 2.4m. but they said they would arange recovery at a cost to myself. and that was the first time i had called them out. So in my opinion not worth leaving to chance.

RAC for me, they picked up my mates boat and trailer on a flat back on my behalf when we had wheel problems coming back from Wales, and to top it all there was no affect to my policy when I came to renew, in fact it came down in price.

It was your experiences that made me go with them for the last year. Just trying to find a better deal. If thats possible.

Thats the same reason i changed. Rang Brittannia rescue. and they said that if the trailer is untowable, as long as its no more than 8m long. they will recover it to your destination, and you can carry on with your journey in the
tow vehicle. he even quoted an incident that had just happened with a trailer
bearing collapse. Best to ring and speak to an adviser your self.

If you join the Camping and Caravan Club I've been led to believe that you get free breakdown recovery.
Might be worth checking out if you can cope with the morris dancing sect!!

Word of warning as well....... most recovery companies wont touch you if your boat and trailer is over 6m!
They subcontract out and leave you on the roadside for four hours in the rain just inches from the M4!!!!!!!!!!!!
Four hours later the worlds largest recovery truck arrives, just perfect for towing 8 tonne trucks along with a monkey driver!!!

That's OK for Hightower - his trailer folds for ease of storage
(Sorry mate, couldn't resist that one )

At the time we had the problem with my mates boat and trailer, I owned a Jetski, and before I took out the policy I questioned the RAC if they would recover my ski and trailer in the event I should have any wheel bearing problems.
Going back to my mates problem with his boat trailer I rang the RAC and even though I was a passenger in his vehicle, they recovered his boat and trailer and delivered it to a destination of our choice.

I'm with Britannia Rescue, £73.95 covers me in any vehicle. I did speak to them before taking the cover out and they confirmed that they covered both the tow vehicle and the trailer; even if it is a trailer failure and the tow vehicle is OK they would still recover the trailer (any trailer under 8 metres). Not had to use them yet though.
