Bow locker cushion wanted / supplier

Hello all

Any recommendations please for where I could get a waterproof cushion or similar to go over this bow locker on a Bombard Explorer 5m, so the person sitting on it doesn't get a numb bum :o)

Currently use a blanket, but once splashed is no good.

Approx size is 830mm wide at widest (front) edge and 630mm from front to back

Or anything second hand for sale?

You could try Outhill. The Bombard 500 will probably be the same as a Zodiac Pro 9 Man now renamed Zodiac 500. Only trouble might be the bow cleat (which Zodiac have on the tube).

Take an accurate paper or card pattern of the shape you want and take it to your nearest upholsterer.
They should be able to sew you up a cushion. Something like weathermax 80 is a good waterproof breathable material.
Maybe stop it short of the cleat at the front and have a loop of webbing to hold it in place.

I know just what you mean... The storage this and the seat locker provide are brilliant. Not sure if they were retrofitted by the previous owner, but so helpful, both with holding stuff and for setting the trim.

Will keep an eye out for you if I see any others.

That's a brilliant idea - never thought of that, but so obvious really. Doh!

I'll check out the costs of the other suppliers and then see how your option compares. Certainly seems the best way to get a good fit.

Sounds like you have a good M-O-L if she helps with you getting out in the boat... But then again, there could be another agenda?! :o)

Can’t you use the locker lid as the base for the seat?
Get some foam cut to size then take it to someone to cover.
You would have to move the latch to the back edge but i see there's already i nice recess for that,
and that way you would still have full access to the cleat

Another good idea - thanks. Will have to have another sit on there and see if I need to cover the cleat area or not... or maybe move it to the side.

It may be an option to make a base from plywood, cut some foam to fit and grab some vinyl covering. Use a staple gun to attach the vinyl under the plywood where you will not see the staples. I would use Velcro tape to attach to the boat.

Any vehicle trimmer will do it I had mine recovered at a chap that does motorbike seats and the like.

I'm regretting ever mentioning it.

The home made version actually worked out quite expensive as I bought water-proof vinyl and foam specifically for marine use. As my mother-in-law was a tailor (now retired), the whole thing was put together professionally. It was sewn inside out using heavy gauge thread. I added stainless steel eyelets to a vinyl strap to secure it to the bow cleat. If I was doing it again I'd use a webbing strap instead.

I'd personally avoid using a plywood base as the bow locker already provides rigidity. Use a decent depth of foam, as anyone up front will no doubt testify to an uncomfortable ride if it gets rough.
