We tow and only leave the boat in over the 2 week summer holiday.
This year we left the boat in the Helford river. used it every day.
After 10 days the boat had lost 500 rpm on top end, started thinking engine etc. Pulled boat out on 13th day and was amazed at the complete covering of very tiny barnicles. It took more than a pressure washer to get them off.

Suggest antifoul is the only solution.

Had the silicon coating applied in April and it had all fallen off by May - they failed to key the gelcoat! They have however now agreed to strip it all off and redo it at their cost. The actual scrubbing seems to depend on the operator's experience, some can't get at the transom and others can. That said, they have done it manually when they haven't been able to get the brushes to the back. Fairly shambolic organisation, but that's true of most of the marine industry in my experience........ Yet to be convinced they're any better under new ownership

I think, by offering unlimited scrubs, they are gonna have to get their act together.. If they do a bad job, they will get the rib/boat/yacht back 5 minutes later. In principle, its a good idea.. Especially for those of us who want to keep the rib in the water all year round, and use it all year round, but don't have the option of launching and recovering whenever we want to.

Mebbe the Cornish barnacles are a hardier species than the Solent barnacles, the one's on my hull came off quite easily with the use of a car ice scraper..

Have tried the Boatscrubber at East Cowes
and i must say not a bad Job

To be fare to the guy the odds were stacked against him if you
could of turned the boat upside down I would of used the brush cutter

However he persevered for some time back and forth & side to side
and got most of it off
I would imagine that if you had it done every three or so weeks you would stay on top of it
But you still need a power washer for round the transom i am surprised
thay havent got one just for that job

Its improved my fuel consumption by 10 litres an hour on average for a level two course , so am impressed John the guy at East Cowes is a good fella and does do a thorough job . It is much better than last time I had a go . I am not sure if this is down to more experience or new brushes or both . Re the transom I have a nice brush for that and so long as I start with a clean boat and maintain it that way I think it's a winner .

Do you have to antifoul the boat? Thinking of doing the east cowes one myself and rally would like to get rid of the antifoul, still struggling with the concept or re-doing it and how to do with the multitude of rollers on the trailer...

I would imagine that so long as you clean it on a regular basis then it should be ok , you won't know till you try .

At £178 a pop for 2.5 liters I think i will let somebody else try it first
