If you email them they will delete the adverts.

Hi John,

I have tested this two or three times over the last few days by placing dummy adverts and it all seems to work ok for me, I have however had a couple of people phone through with a problem so I have asked the techies to take a look at it again, we do take these issues very seriously I can assure you.

Well, but it's never worked for me and you'll also find it mentioned by several other people here. Maybe they have fixed it!

i think the boats and outboards is a great site for buying and selling and long may it continue

however an observation

i believe they make their money via phone calls which are routed via special numbers which have a higher cost and generate revenue for B&O

perhaps this is a reason why it has been delayed or not possible to remove adverts or a delay in fixing the problem as an advert can still generate revenue if people keep calling!

Hi boats,
What I mean is that this redundancy is built into the system, after a set period the adverts are automatically removed from the server.

Another point, I found that the splitting of the rib section into five a bit too much. If it were split into sports and commercial for instance, it would make it easier.

Currently, if I want to search for a humber, I have to do it four times.

Apart from the minor carps, a very good site and I do use it.

Nick.

I can assure you that we are not deliberately holding old adverts on the website to generate revenue. The privacy numbers are there to offer individuals privacy and secondly make us a little bit of revenue and I mean a little.

I am just wondering whether you have bookmarked an older place and ad page?

If you go to this page and select RIBs section in the search menu and any other criteria you should be able to search just once in the RIB section for Humber. http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/php/search.php3

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers

Stephen

It's actually worse than nik said. You have to search in six sections, not five! From the results it appears that "RIBs" is a separate category in its own right, and doesn't include the other "Ribs - " categories . . .

I agree far too many sub sections for RIBs - 2 would be enough. Great to see someone who listens though - keep up the great work.

People are right about automatically removing old adverts - you really don't want to turn into a moon duck........

update

Update:-

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all of your feedback.

The search system has now been upgraded so that you can do a key word search for the RIB category and it will search all the sub-sections. http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/php/search.php3

I have also got to the bottom of old boats being on the site and also people not being able to delete adverts, this is being fixed as we speak.

Cheers

Stephen

I see they have brought back the advert age but limited to a week, at which point it just says "Over 1 week".

Sense has prevailed!

Hi Alex,

We have been out at the various boat shows this last few weeks, I have just got back from the South Wales Boat Show and the feedbacdk given by everyone convinced me that we needed a compromise of sorts, hopefully this helps people determine which boats are new on the site.

Off on holiday for a week now but please if anyone has any feedback good or bad let me know and I will look in to it on my return.

Cheers

Stephen
