It's a top boat. She will grow to love it as she has you no doubt

Bon voyage and it would be interesting to have some updates

There are certain similarities... old, smelly, falling apart. I have never understood what she sees in me, so I suppose there's hope for the boat too!

Good one... Except I figure that with her being 5'3" and 98#, she would be best suited for the inside bilge work! I suppose if she skipped the face shield, at least her face would get a nice glow... although perhaps a little pock-marked!

"My" new boat just sailed past the front window with a dive charter group... heading to the North Channel, north of Manitoulin Island, for a week. Her Captain and I just chatted on the radio to set up a golf game for ourselves and our "better halves" upon their return. Considering I took up the ridiculously stupid game of golf to satisfy my betrothed's sado-masochistic tendencies, it seems fitting that the links would be a good spot for a conversation about boats!

Kathleen - I successfully dropped out of a NVQ 2 welding course last year and I can create pigeon poo til the cows come home!

I suppose I should really learn to do it properly so I don't have to keep running to himself every time I want to alter one of the bikes...

I know you are all wondering about this situation...

So here's a bit of an update...

The boat is still up for sale, and the price is VERY attractive. We spent a portion of the weekend enjoying cocktails on the afterdeck and after a few Scotchs, Mrs. Stoo blurted out... "Fine, just buy it, but I am NOT welding and I am NOT going into the bilge!" (My emphasis.)

So, the process has moved forward a titch.

The price has come down because new Coast Guard regulations for commercial vessels have eliminated a number of "Grandfathered" loopholes. In this case, the tug lacks watertight bulkheads in the hull, and it really isn't practical to add them. As a result, the boat could never be used for charter and any future owner could only use it as a "personal" boat.

The current owner also confessed that the engine really should be replaced (especially given that I am not a particularly skilled diesel mechanic...) and that before long, a number of hull plates need to be replaced... at considerable expense. (You see, it pays to lubricate the current owner to get the real "scoop"...)

So I think I am going to engage a surveyor to get a proper evaluation done before giving this more serious consideration! I suspect his report will end my craving...

In the mean time, I am trying to find a sexy, extra small welding mask... The ideal Christmas gift for the woman I love!

Looks like you've found my dream boat... One that's big enough to store the 733 on deck. In this case it can be either the fore or aft deck!

I don't think it would fit on the pointy end, but surely would on the back. The crane needs a little beefing up, but that should be easy~

Here's a thought... you buy it, and I'll sail it over to your place. I imagine by the time I run from to Tobermory to Vancouver, I will have had my fill! It would likely take about a year to get there!

LMAO... That's friggin' hilarious. Now that the effects of the aforementioned scotch have subsided, her willingness to allow me to indulge my "bathtub toy fantasy" (her words) seems to have wained a little. Well, actually, a lot.

Fortunately, I am known for my patience, and I don't think any one else is likely to buy it. Which should probably mean something to me...

Stay tuned~

A new engine will be pricey or is it a rebuild? Does she realise she will be preserving a piece of history!

Just tell her "Darling Victoria Beckham is doing the interior of the new Range Rover, I'm appointing you to do the interior of Bathtub on the grounds you are better looking and will do a better job"

Please post what she comes back with.

Another welding "hat" for her to consider also
