Boat Registration

Hi All

I am now the proud owner of a Zodiac 340s (new) with a 2006 Mariner 9.9

I have tried searching the old posts but either became blind or missed the information I am looking for

I am planning on using the sib for just general fun or camping with my son at , Loch Lomond , Caledonian Canal , Maybe Loch Ken , Ullswater , Occasional trip on the river tyne (if its flat maybe venture out from the piers and up the coast a little bit

Do I need to register the boat , if so is there some form of national registration or is this all done at a local site level so if i go to ullswater I need to register there and I presume display a number. then if i went to Loch Lomond register again and display a different number.

Anything I have found elsewhere on the internet has not cleared it up for me on should or shouldnt I be registered

Obviously I am in the process of sorting out liability insurance but are there any other specific legal type things i need to have

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

Welcome to ribnet

Loch Lomond you'll definetly need to register - its £5, and once paid, you're registered for life - they'll send you a " do you still own this boat / anything changed" form annually, whch you send back & they send out your reg. plates for the year.
try http://www.loch-lomond.net/boating/registration.aspx for a start.

Caley canal I think is similar to the other Scottish canals - you can get various "tickets" depending on what you want to do, but donlt need a full blown registration. http://www.scottishcanals.co.uk/ is a good place to start.

No idea about your other planned venues, but I'm suire someone local to there will be along soon to advise.

And I'm sure as it's a cruising area type Q, it'll probably stay here!

Its a good idea to have your boat registered with the CG via CG66 too:

You're OK, this is as good a place for it as any as it would apply to RIBs as well.

lake district special planning board accept small ships registration -or at least did and I suppose they still do--a loophole used to avoid paying LDSPB exhorbitant charges in the past
