Saw it on the news. I thought it was the Brits who deployed fireships against the Spanish. May have been a lost deauville rally boat with dangerous fuel load...
Too cloudy to see from Cowes, can see your tower quite easily though! There is one of those towers of folly in Liverpool - the revolving restaurant which doesnt revolve and isn't a restaurant. Still it looks nice.

Christ! That's a bit extreme tactic to use against the Pride of Bilbao ain't it?

Seems so - and a little un required as the Brits on board fuelled on tax free beer are quite capable of doing same job...

It was in Mill Rythe on the East side of Hayling Island.

Very black smoke but the breeze was thinning it above tree top height.
I saw it from Emsworth, and wondered why the SAR heloi was over it as the fire seemed to be on land from where I was standing.

Thanks for info. Not much about this incident anywhere, but I am always interested in fire-at-sea situations. Most dangerous hazard, period.

Roger that... basic I suppose but worth reprising: calor/propane installation = (forced) ventilated bilges especially when gasoline is present. Must be pretty sure this is the combo which caused this inferno. Most cogniscent people I know with sea going power boats will not contemplate calor/propane on board even with diesel installations, preferring instead alcohol stoves. Not RIBworthy I know, but probably worth thinking about.

Trust he will be OK.
