Saw that yesterday. But I am sure I have seen that before, same rescue etc. Not sure if it was from another program like BBC One Program!

I'd have loved to take a look but got BBC blocked as I'm not in UK

These "rights management" schemes are truly the tower of babel.....

Too right - maybe you could look for a remote proxy in the UK.

What about the World Service???

Besides which the vast majority of the licence fee goes to pay for the grossly overinflated salaries of the people who work there - if there happens to be a bit left over for the progs they may just make them.

The BBC realised a long time ago that they will get the same amount of money no matter what drivel they turn out!!!

the BBC World Service is paid for by the Foreign Office not by the licence fee. Whilst you could argue that its the British Tax payer in either case - there is IMHO a subtle but significant difference. Someone in the Foreign Office has presumably done some calculations that the return to the UK (in terms of balance of payments etc) makes it ecconomically in the tax payers best interests to provide the world service.

Or you could stick to the facts - and about 1/3rd (in no ones mind is that a vast majority!) of the licence fee goes on staff costs. IIRC they actually have a programme to increase the salaries of their senior managers to be more competitive in the media market so I think "grossly overinflated" also is not really true. They spend more on making, buying in and broadcasting programmes than they do on staff.

I am not on about the normal staff. What about people like Jonathan Woss and Chris Evans etc. Also all the foreign jaunts and other expenses that come out of the prog budgets???

The quality of the programmes has gone down hill so much. Reality TV shows and cookery programmes etc are so much cheaper to make than the programmes of old.

I still haven't forgiven the BBC and in particular Michael Grade for what they did to Dr Who. One of the most popular shows ever and they axed it just because the Chairman didn't like it!!!

I have no idea what they earn. The reality is both their shows are popular and on prime time on major BBC channels; those slots demand a significant personality - if the BBC isn't willing to pay for presenters then the "best" (which i realise is subjective) will work for other stations.

Or is it, atleast in part, that these show are popular with the great british public? And I think if you look at it the commercial stations are at least as guilty of this. If you want "serious" tv - turn over e.g. to BBC Four.

Dr Who was dated. In my opinion most TV series should stop after their third or fourth series anyway as it is virtually impossible to maintain the standard. However the BBC have brought back a much better new Dr Who - so get over it.

I suspect you are wanting the BBC tailored entirely around your own specific wishes. Given that there are rough 30 million other licence fee payers that might be a little hopeful.

Actually I would pay the license fee just for CBebbies/CBBC (which isn't perfect by any means) but it is worth it not to be subjected to the "pester power" from the advertising on the other childrens channels.

You could say that but I didn't.....I thought the content was the vid, who got paid for that? If you're referring to the BBC servers, well that could be so but how's about I charge you rent for an email between Brits if it passes over the Global Crossing fiber that lands here? Don't get your meaning?

I suspect it's as much about the BBC servers not having to cope with traffic from the whole world to keep the cost down as payment for licence fee issues.
It seems to be choked to about 25kps here.

I don't understand the purpose of these dogs..........

Why couldn't the 'rescue' boat just motor right up to the casualty in the water?

Is it really a good idea to condone leaping off the boat whilst it is underway, as a matter of course?

I agree they were great, strong animals, but not really keeping it simple (KISS) were they?

Orve.
