Ok please enlighten me. My experience is mainly with High Performance Carbon/Boron reinforced Beach Casting Rods, to which I have had some input into during the manufacturing process of some. They tend to-have very High Tensile/Torsion strength...but do NOT like a Knock! or impact of any kind... Often showing NO sign of internal-integral damage..only to fail completely under Stress!!
I'm not saying that such composites don't have an important roll to play in a lot of places....just that I cant see them best suited to the A-Frame application...If your ever going to use them in Anger anyway

Oh dear oh dear oh dear - I suggest you go away and do some basic research on the properties and application of carbon fibre reinforced composites in real engineering applications and not mickey mouse fishing rods - ie with the exception of the engine, gearbox components and wheel rims, a Formula One car is made almost entirely of carbon fibre -I wonder why - so google that application and learn.

Aren't the 777/dream liner wing spars carbon composite? I know the wings on various aircraft I've flown are.......

Should I be worried?

WOW! I bet that's why there are so many A-FRAME'S being made out of Carbon Fibre!..and People swapping their old weak Stainless Ones!!.. OR do you reckon they are STRONGER more RESILIANT-EASIER TO REPAIR AND MODIFY AND DURABLE FOR HARD USE than solid STAILESS STEEL ..if not??? ..(Remember we're TAKLKING A-FRAMES on a BOAT) I rest my case!

If they are made by the same person who makes Maximus's fishing rods - yes I would.

Seriously Peter - Boeing now use over 50% composites in their 787 and if anyone is genuinely interested in the FACTS relating to composites and aircraft then have a look at the pdf at this site - but only ifyou have a bit of time to spare

There are lots of different grades of carbon and carbon composite. I know from the cycling world that carbon does indeed have a high strength/weight benefit over its alu or steel counterparts, but as Maximus says, impact resistance is a different characteristic to strength. There is no way I would get back on my crashed carbon bike without having it checked for structural damage, even if it appeared fine on the surface.

Another Issue

Some of my customers have had equipment packaged in carbon fibre cases. With the handling of these over a period of time, in and out of trucks etc, areas of damage occurred that did not affect the structural integrity of the cases, but left carbon fibres exposed. These would penetrate the skin and being carbon, it appears that the bodies natural defences did not respond, or at lease not appropriately. Secondary infections caused some quite nasty 'problems' in some otherwise very fit individuals. Another nail in the coffin for carbon fibre?
