I think most peoples definition of a rib or rhib is same as wikipedia, ....

They are called "Stab Boats" by the designer "Stab" being short for stability. An accepted form of fast boat. The collar allows the boat to turn at high speed and the VAS is increased to pass regulations. Alan P

Not sure Wikipedia is an official regulator of anything. Type in F1 cars and see what you get? The FIA have a different view on technical issues. Alan P

Gents, I think we all know a Rigid Inflatable Boat when we see one. You don't need to be a technical genius to work it out. If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck & quacks, then......it's a duck. If it looks like the bastard offspring of the Michelin man & Kryten & somebody wants to play with words & call it a RIB, then let 'em. We know different

Forgive my input but surely the definition of a RIB would be any rigid hull vessel that relies on an inflatable collar for its inherent buoyancy without which the reduced freeboard would render it unseaworthy?........ Or something to that tune :-)

I'd love to do the chbg run, but it's too much for us to do in a weekend, coming from the frozen north. We can't get away until Friday night, & have to be back on Sunday pm. The missus is tied by work.

Yeah Mrs Anchorhandler is tied by work too.......hence the reason I'm out to play :-)

Shame though but i understand, its a long round trip for me and the truck too, 1,5 hours there and back......... For Cherbourg?

I guess add any tube to any boat and you can call it a rib these days. funny world.
