what is the best Tube cleaner for a rib and where can it be purchased?

Traffic film remover (TFR) diluted with water. You can get it on ebay very cheaply. Wear gloves, put some in a sprayer, spray onto the tube, then rub with a soft green pan scourer. Rinse with lots of fresh water.

See my post about Rib-Shop, they use stuff called Rib Revive and a 3M protectant and it has done wonders for my Rib and can be bought from their website.....

I suspect Rib Revive is similar to diluted TFR; it smells similar, burns your skin in a similar way when you don't wear gloves, and gives a similar result.

All joking aside, I don't think Rib Revive is TFR, certainly not the stuff I had anyway.

TFR is great but I found a green nylon scourer a bit too rough - use a soft nylon brush instead - Tesco do some great ones cheap - also good for alloy wheels.

Does anybody think the "tube protector" does anything?

I have done my RIB a couple of times with Rib Revive and the effect is dramatic - but last time I did part of the tube immediately afterwards with 3M tube conditioner for the first time and it didn't seem to make a darned bit of difference so I didn't do the rest, and three months on the whole tube still looks much the same and is just starting to look a bit grubby again. What's it actually supposed to do?

ciaranp you spray the Rib Revive on from the supplied trigger spray bottle, leave it for a minute or so and then scrub it with a scourer and wash it off with lots and lots of water. Don't leave it to dry on the tube in hot sun as it then leaves horrid streaks which are a bugger to shift - no prizes for guessing how I know that! Best done on a dull day, I do about a chamber at a time on my RIB as by the time I have sprayed that much it is ready to start scrubbing at the other end. The first time I did it, it took a lot of elbow grease but it had been stored in a warehouse populated by smelly forklift trucks, last time I did it, it was dead easy and took me less than an hour to do the whole boat.

I have not used any of the tube protectors, but I believe they leave a film on the tubes to stop dirt adhering and thereby making subsequent cleaning easier.

I have been told by a RIB manufacturer that Mr Sheen furniture polish has the same effect. Might make the tubes a bit slippery though... So don't sit the wife on them while underway!

I used polymarine hypalon cleaner plus protector. I guess it's the same as rib revive. Basically wet the tubes, spray on and give it a rub. Removed all traces of grime - approx 30 mins to do the whole boat and the excess that dribbled down the tubes onto the hull also made a really good job of cleaning the gellcoat! It really does work unlike the stuff that I got as a freebie when I got the boat (can't recall what make it is but it wasn't in a spray bottle)

Wash of then apply the protector which is meant to stop the effects of UV on the tubes.

do any of these product bring back some of the old colour of the tube? i mean if the tubes were a dark blue, and are now faded due to the sun ? thanks!

I wouldn't use anything other that RIB Revive now. On special 20% off retail during the boat show
